The Iquique International Film Festival was founded in 2009, finding to create a platform of cultural cooperation.

This is a free event and we try to expand the cinema to people that does not have access to comercial cinemas.

During these twelve years, we have created a place where the audience can access to see different kind of films, assist to workshops, and lectures with authors, filmmakers, producer, scriptwritter, and all kind of audiovisual workers.

The awards will be announced closer to the event dates.

2020 ENTRY RULES


In its 12th edition, the FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DE IQUIQUE- FICIQQ (Chile), is pleased to announce the rules for the official competitions of this event.

ENTRY RULES 2020

The festival, which will take place in November 2020, has as its main purpose to promote and distribute films in the Tarapacá Region (Chile), through a free cultural event of an international character. The consolidation of the venues in Iquique and its surroundings, in addition to the outdoor exhibitions, is part of our responsibility as cultural managers to expand culture to cities that have little access to events of this magnitude.

In our 12th version, the festival opens the call for the following lines of competition: International Cine de Los Extremos Competition, Chilean Competition, International Short Film and Regional Short Film.


1.-GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The general conditions to be met by participants in all categories of the FICIQQ 12 are described below

1.1 All audiovisual works may participate, whether they are made by professionals, students or amateurs in the field of cinema.
1.2 They must comply with the requirements of each competition, detailed in points 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4; besides, they must complete the registration data set out in point 3.
1.3 Works may not be published for exhibition on the Internet or have been released in the region.
1.4 Works that have participated in previous versions of the festival, whether for pre-selection, exhibition or competition, are excluded.
1.5 The submission of works for pre-selection will be as indicated in point 3.


2.- ABOUT THE COMPETITION

2.1 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION CINE DE LOS EXTREMOS

a. Audiovisual works completed as of January 2019, without having been premiered in Chile, will be accepted.
b. Works can be fiction and/or documentary. The fundamental and exclusive requirement is to deal with the subject of extremes, be they geographical, political, community and/or social. Priority will be given to works produced in the same places portrayed.
c. Feature films must have a minimum duration of 40 (forty) minutes without credits.
d. The works that are not spoken in Spanish, must be subtitled in Spanish.
e. The works must comply with the minimum technical standards for the exhibition. These conditions will be informed when the official selection is communicated.

2.2 CHILEAN COMPETITION

a. Audiovisual works completed from January 2020 onwards, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced in Chile, will be accepted.
b. Co-productions will be accepted, as long as at least the director and/or the Chief Executive Producer are Chilean nationals and/or residents of the country.
c. Feature films must have a minimum duration of 40 (forty) minutes without credits.
d. Works that are not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.
e. The works must comply with the minimum technical standards for the exhibition. These conditions will be informed when the official selection is communicated.

2.3 INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

a. Audiovisual works completed from January 2019 onwards, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced both in Chile and abroad, will be accepted.
b. Short films must have a maximum length of 30 (thirty) minutes, including credits.
d. The works that are not spoken in Spanish, must be subtitled in Spanish.
e. The works must comply with the minimum technical standards for the exhibition. These conditions will be informed when the official selection is communicated.

2.4 REGIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

a. Audiovisual works completed as of January 2019, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced in the Tarapacá Region, will be accepted.
b. Short films must have a maximum length of 30 (thirty) minutes, including credits.
d. The works that are not spoken in Spanish, must be subtitled in Spanish.
e. The works must comply with the minimum technical standards for the exhibition. These conditions will be informed when the official selection is communicated.
f. If a minimum number of works in the competition is not achieved, the festival reserves the right to create a non-competitive Exhibition with the works sent, subject to prior consent with the authors of the works.


3.- ABOUT THE REGISTRATION

Opening: from the publication of the rules, April 2020
Closing date: receipt of applications until June 30, 2020

NO WORKS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DATE INDICATED.

The sending of the works will be completed through the Festhome platform, completing the data requested by the platform and complying with the rules of competition, through the following links:

4. SELECTION

Those selected works will be notified by email during September 2020, and the Official Selection list will be published during October 2020 on the Festival's website www.festivalcineiquique.com, official social networks and associated media.

Submitted works will not be returned.

4.1 Selection Criteria

The organization reserves the right to select the works that will participate in the Festival. The selection will be made by the FICIQQ programming area and competent professionals in the field. They are excluded from participating in competitive instances:

1. Any work-related directly or indirectly to any member of the FICIQQ organization.
2. Any work directly related to any sponsor, associated media, or the Festival.
3. Any work that has been exhibited and/or premiered on the Internet.
4. Any work that does not comply with the published rules.



4.2 Conditions Selected Works

Once the representatives of the selected works in the different categories have been contacted, it is the duty of the participants:

1. Fulfil the guide for sending selected works, which will be sent at the time of selection, to the email with which the work was submitted on the platform Festhome.
2. Copies must be in the possession of the organization no later than November 1, 2020.
3. Any problem with the exhibition format or any other reason, please contact as soon as possible with the programming director, Sebastián González Itier, at sgonzalez@festivalcineiquique.com.


5.-JURY OF THE FESTIVAL

The jury will be composed of people with experience in the film field. Different juries will be established for each category in the competition. The decisions of the jury will be final.

Any member directly or indirectly related to any of the works in competition in their category will be excluded from being a juror. However, they may be jurors of another category, since each committee acts independently of the others.

The decision of the jury is a common agreement between them and is not necessarily determined by vote or unanimity, but as each committee considers appropriate. This decision is not subject to appeal. Its verdict will be public and known by all participants and the public of the Festival, being published on the website, social networks and associated media.

The Organization of FICIQQ has no interference in the decisions of the jury.


6.-ABOUT THE WINNING WORKS

1. The organization reserves the right to add or withdraw prizes according to its criteria. Prizes will be announced on dates close to the event.
2. One winning entry per category and at least one special mention from the jury will be chosen.
3. A Young Jury Award will be chosen, made up of the members of the FICIQQ School, in the categories of International Competition, Chilean Competition and International Short Film.
4. The winners will have to incorporate to their future copies and diffusion material the corresponding logo and laurels of the award obtained in the contest.
5. The prizes obtained that are related to the participation and attendance to other competitions will have an execution agreement that will be signed after the end of the festival, whose clauses once accepted must be respected.


7.- LICENSES

The contest may show the short films of the selection for their projection in itinerant shows in the Tarapacá Region and special shows with educational purposes. In the case of full-length films, an authorization will be requested for each possible instance of the exhibition. In the case of any exhibition for the promotion of the Festival abroad, an authorization will be requested for each work from the respective holders of the exhibition rights.

The festival must ensure that these activities are completely free of charge, non-profit and with the exclusive aim of exhibiting the works in places with little access to cultural assets.


8.-ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The organizers reserve the right to change the date and format of the event for reasons of force majeure.
The selected films will not be returned. The organization reserves the right to use them for the Festival's publicity purposes, without any commercial purpose and any charge for the exhibition or the public.
