Menorca Film Festival (#EsFestival) is celebrated annually at the core of the Balearic Islands. It is a unique and essential film festival bringing together the best national and international contemporary cinema.

We provide an unusual overview of national and international productions, offering our residents and visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy high quality cinematic experiences and proposals from around the world.

"ILLES EN CURT" AND "BALEARS EN CURT" SECTIONS:

• A cash prize of 600 euros (including taxes and deductions)
• Cinematographic material courtesy of Foto Ruano.
• An award of the Festival.

1. OPEN CALL AND REGISTRATION PERIOD

The open call for international short films for the section “Illes en Curt” and "Balears en Curt" is from 4th of December to 30th of March 2018. The submission of works of the section "Illes en Curt" has a fee of 5€ non-refundable. The "Balears en Curt" submissions are free. The deadline for submission and reception of short films ends on March 30 at 12pm (noon). Works submitted after this date and time will not be accepted.
Registration and presentation of short films must be made exclusively through the following online platform: Festhome


2. REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION RULES Competition Section “Illes en Curt”

2.1. "ILLES EN CURT" SECTION
Anyone can participate regardless of country or origin, except for residents or people born in the Balearic Islands, who must submit their works in the competition section "Balears in Curt".
• Short of 20 minutes maximum duration and produced between 2015 and 2018.
• Short genres accepted: fiction, documentary or animation.
• Subtitles: Short films must have Spanish subtitles embedded if their O.V is other than Spanish.

2.1.1. Short films already submitted in past open calls of the same Festival or those which do not follow the above rules of participation won’t be considered.

2.1.2. The theme of the short films is free. The selection committee will prioritize the quality, originality and the technical and artistic solidity of the productions, as well as those which haven’t been commercially released.

2.2. "BALEARS EN CURT" SECTION
Any work directed or produced by a person from Balearic Islands can participate. There will be also considered films shot in Balearic Islands.
• Short of 20 minutes maximum duration and produced between 2015 and 2018.
• Short genres accepted: fiction, documentary or animation.
• Subtitles: Short films must have Spanish subtitles embedded if their O.V is other than Spanish.

2.1.1. Short films already submitted in past open calls of the same Festival or those which do not follow the above rules of participation won’t be considered.

2.1.2. The theme of the short films is free. The selection committee will prioritize the quality, originality and the technical and artistic solidity of the productions, as well as those which haven’t been commercially released.


3. SELECTION

The festival programing committee will evaluate all works submitted under the above requirements and make the selection, which will be communicated to each producer or director of the selected proposals.

3.1. Advertising works or of tourism nature or those that use non-original material in more than 10% of the entire short film won’t be admitted.

3.2. Short films without standard image and sound quality required for projection will be also rejected.

3.3. The organization and the festival selection committee reserve the right to not communicate the reasons and causes for which a short film has not been selected.


4. COMMUNICATION AND DISSEMINATION

4.1. The official selection will be published on the web and social networks of the Festival.

4.2. The non-selected short films will be notified by email before the celebration of the Festival.

4.2. The Festival is allowed to use any photo or digital material from the selected short films for promotional purposes, which can be published at the Festival’s website and social networks. Also, the rights owners of the short films grant permission to use any related materials for press and media purposes.


5. SCREENING AND PROGRAMMING IN CASE OF BEING SELECTED

5.1. Each selected short film must send to the festival’s organization the following requested materials:
• One picture from the director(s)
• Two or more stills from the short film in jpg. format
• Press kit (full list of artistic and catalogue credits, synopsis, etc...)
• Any other material and info that the Festival considers necessary.

5.2. The selected short films will be screened at this year's Menorca Film Festival competitive sections, along whit the following screenings:
• Screenings at Balearia boats before the Festival’s dates in the next year’s edition (2019).
• Screenings at several villages in Menorca in collaboration with other entities from the island.
• Promotional screenings within the framework of the Festival FCME.

5.3. The responsible for each selected short film must submit to the organization the screening copy of the short film in a digital file through a permanent downloadable link with the following technical specifications:
• File Extension: .mov or .mp4.
• Video codec: H264/MPEG-4
• Minimum Resolution: 1920 x 1080
• Audio codec: AAC o PCM.
• Subtitles: All short films must have Spanish subtitles burned in case of being shot in other languages.

5.4. The screening copies will be sent to the Festival with enough time. Any short film that does not meet the above mentioned technical requirements will not be screened.

5.5 The author or authors must first ensure that the content of the short film does not infringe the intellectual property rights or other rights of third parties, exonerating the Selection Committee from any responsibility.

5.6 Payment of screening fees or exhibition rights is not contemplated at any case.


6. JURY AND PRIZE

6.1. A Jury appointed by the Menorca International Film Festival and composed of professionals in the audiovisual and cultural sector (national and international) will decide the winner of the sections “Illes en Curt” and "Balears en Curt". The Jury will be announced through the web and social networks of the festival.

6.2. The short films winning its sections will be awarded with:
• A cash prize of 600 euros (including taxes and deductions)
• Cinematographic material courtesy of Foto Ruano.
• An award of the Festival.

Registration and submission of a short film in competition at the "Illes en Curt" or "Balears en Curt" sections implies the acceptance of these regulations.
