The main objective of the Short Film Festival is the dissemination of ecosystems and biological heritage through cinematographic and audiovisual works selected through quality criteria.

Prize for Best Short film Nature - €4000

It is mandatory, filling the registration form in:

Article 1

1- The main objective of the short-film contest is to promote the theme of biological natural heritage, namely the natural regions, ecosystems, habitats and species of wild fauna and flora, through the selection and classification of cinematographic works related to this theme, according to criteria defined in this regulation. It also aims to promote cinematography of nature, its growth and development, in addition to seeking to launch the debate and reflection of society on the need to know, promote and conserve biodiversity and the environment.

2 - The selection and classification of competing cinematographic works results in the holding of the Biodiversity Short Film Festival, an event integrated in the International Nature Image Festival.

Article 2
(Organizing committee)

1 - The Organizing Committee is composed by members of the Environment Services of the Vila Real City Hall, the Museum of sound and image of Vila Real and the Municipal Theater of Vila Real.

2 - It is the responsibility of the Organizing Committee to manage and organize the Competition, namely the appointment of the members of the Jury. The Organizing Committee is also responsible for verifying the admission criteria defined in the articles 4 and 5 of this Regulation, as well as the acceptance of the works in the competition.

3 - It is the competence of the Organizing Committee to select the short films that will be shown in the Festival of Short Films, integrated in FIIN.

Article 3

1 - The Jury of this competition consists of people of merit recognized in the themes of the Festival, in a minimum number of 5 (five) elements.

2 - It is the competence of the Jury to choose the winning cinematographic work of the Competition, selected among the works presented for the evaluation.

3-The Jury can decide about the attribution of honorable mentions.

Article 4
(Admission of cinematographic works to competition)

1- The following shall be admitted:

a) cinematographic works of the following types: cinematographic works of national and international origin;

b) With a duration between 5 and 28 minutes;

c) Works that comply with the theme and objectives defined in number 1 of article 1 of this regulation.

2 - The cinematographic works to be submitted to the Competition can be narrated in any language, although it is mandatory to include subtitling in the english language, except for the works narrated in the Portuguese language.

Article 5
(Registration and submission of cinematographic works)

1 – Participation in the Short Film Contest is free of charge.

2 – To participate in the Short Film Contest, an electronic registration must be done on the form available on the official website of the Festival (, as well as the inclusion of all elements and files requested on this platform.

3 – Failure to complete the registration form mentioned in the previous point is a reason for exclusion from the Contest.

4 – The cinematographic works are submitted through the external platforms Festhome or through platforms with Vimeo and Youtube viewing link.

5 – The submission of the cinematographic works referred to in point 4 of this article presupposes that the necessary authorizations and accesses are indispensable for the visualization of the work (hyperlink and password).

6 – Competitors must provide the necessary authorization for the downloading of archives of the cinematographic works in contest.

7 – It is the responsibility of the competitor all the costs associated with the participation and submission of works in this contest.

8 – The competitors undertake to assign to the organizers the right to exhibit, publish or reproduce part or all of the works, always safeguarding the indication of the author, according to article 40 of the CDADC – Code of Copyright and Rights Related.

Article 6

1 - The deadline for competitors to apply and submit their cinematographic works to the competition runs between April 6, 2019 and July 6, 2020.

2 - The Organizing Committee will inform the film directors and / or the producers of the films selected for the Competition until September 30, 2020, through the submission platforms.

3 - The lack of notification of selection by the Organizing Committee until the date mentioned in the previous point, determines that the respective film was not selected for the Contest.

4-Until November 2, 2020, the Organizing Committee of the Contest will communicate through the official website of FIIN (, the list of films that will be part of the program of exhibition at the Festival of Short Films, to be held between 16 and November 12, 2020.

5 - The public announcement of the winner of the Short Film Competition will take place at the International Nature Image Festival (FIIN) on the 22th of November 2020.

Article 7

1 - A prize of € 4,000.00 (four thousand euros) will be awarded to the Short Film best classified by the Jury of the Competition.

Article 8

1. The competitor (and / or the holder of the rights to display the film at festivals) undertakes to mention FIIN and to use its logo in all publicity and press / promotional material produced after the award of the prize to the movie.

Article 9
(Final measures)

1- FIIN’s official languages are Portuguese and English.

2- Participation in the Short Film Competition reflects the full acceptance of the terms of this regulation.

3- The right to consider and to decide about any question not present in this regulation is reserved to the Organizing Committee.

4- The decisions of the Organizing Committee and the Jury are final and irrevocable, with no recourse to it.

5 - The participation in the contest of members of the Organizing Entities, as well as of the members that are part of the Jury of the Contest, is forbidden.
