The FERRARA FILM FESTIVAL is one of the fastest growing film festival in the World, hosted in the northern Italian City of Ferrara, a UNESCO World Heritage site that serves as an incredible backdrop for this high profile cinematic event.
The Ferrara Film Festival, in just 4 editions, had movies screened in its competition with some of the major Italian and international movie stars. Ashley Judd, Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen, James Franco, John Travolta, Sharon Stone, Ed Harris, Wesley Snipes, Michele & Violante Placido, Primo Reggiani, Maria Bello, Noomi Rapace, Maria Bello, Tom Wilkinson... just to name a few.

This is a global film competition that saw 10.000 people attending the 4º edition in 2019, that culminates in the Golden Dragon Awards Ceremony. Also includes movie themed collateral events, entertainment shows and an exclusive partnership with UNICEF.
Ferrara Film Festival is the ultimate cultural and economical bridge between United States, Italy and the rest of the World, because is the first festival on Italian soil organized directly from Los Angeles, where its headquarter is based. This characteristic, thanks to the Hollywood experience and method of work of its team members, makes this event very innovative and unique in its genre... and very fast growing!

At the Ferrara Film Festival there will be films "Off Competition" and "In Competition".
The selected films "In Competition" will be divided by the festival itself in the following sections (all applies for feature and short films) - When you submit your film, all you have to do is to choose between “Feature Film”, “Short Film” and “Documentary”... we’ll do the rest of the work for you!

Here below our detailed categories (for both feature films and short films):

Films produced in the United States of America.
(The motion pictures can be filmed everywhere, but the Production Company must be legally based in the US).

Films produced in the rest of planet.
(The motion pictures can also be filmed in the United States, but the Production Company must be legally based outside the US).

Feature Documentaries produced anywhere in the world.

The "Effetto Hollywood" category will focus on films with a prominent amount of special effects, visual effects and/or practical effects.

Films produced or shot in Emilia Romagna Region in Italy.

Films with sensitive subject towards minors and kids.

A fan film is a movie inspired by a film, television program, comic book or a similar source, created by fans rather than by the source's copyright holders or creators.

At the Ferrara Film Festival there will be two movies “Off Competition”, usually an opening film and a closing film, and they will be American feature films of critical praise and commercial appeal. They will be World or European premieres.

The awards of the Ferrara Film Festival are called GOLDEN DRAGONS, which recall the legend and mythological figure of the Dragon killed by St. George (the Patron Saint of Ferrara). Each award is a prestigious sculpture covered in gold, made directly in Hollywood.

For each edition of the Ferrara Film Festival 6 judges will be assigned to choose the award winners in all categories.
