The Hollywood Academy supports Huesca International Film Festival by recognizing it as shortlisting for the Oscar Awards within Best Short Fiction Film category, also the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes it for the Goya Awards.

IBERO-AMERICAN SHORT FILMS COMPETITION

It will be held during the Festival and the following official awards will be given:

• 1st prize · IBERO-AMERICAN DANZANTE AWARD
5,000€ and a trophy. It will be automatically qualified to participate in the Short Films category of the Oscar Academy Awards for the corresponding year.

• 2nd prize · CACHO PALLERO IBERO-AMERICAN DANZANTE
2,000€ and a diploma.


• IBERO-AMERICAN DANZANTE DEBUT FILM ALBERTO SÁNCHEZ AWARD: €1,000 and diploma. Debut work is understood as the 1st and 2nd realization by the director. If the work is co-directed, this condition must apply to all directors. Works produced under the auspices of a school that have had commercial distribution or screenings at festivals will count for their director(s) as part of the total number of realizations.

Awarded by the Youth Jury.

 
INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS COMPETITION

It will be held during the Festival and the following official awards will be given:

• 1st prize · INTERNATIONAL DANZANTE AWARD
5,000€ and a trophy. It will be automatically qualified to participate in the Short Films category of the Oscar Academy Awards for the corresponding year.

• INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM DANZANTE 1,500€ and a trophy. Awarded by the Instituto de Estudios Altoaragoneses.

• DEBUT FILM INTERNATIONAL DANZANTE
1,000€ and a trophy. Awarded by the Fundación Anselmo Pié Sopena.
Debut work is understood as the 1st and 2nd realization by the director. If the work is co-directed, this condition must apply to all directors. Works produced under the auspices of a school that have had commercial distribution or screenings at festivals will count for their director(s) as part of the total number of realizations.
Awarded by the Youth Jury.

FRANCISCO GARCÍA DE PASO HUMAN RIGHTS MENTION
A certificate for the short film that best highlights the defence of human right values.

THE SCRIPT AWARD

Granted jointly with the Anselmo Pié Sopena Foundation, based on the following considerations:
• Eligible for the award are works selected in the International and Ibero-American Contest.
• The juries of the International Contest and the Ibero-American Contest will each select a minimum of 3 finalists, and a special jury will determine the winner.
• The prize consists of €500 and a diploma.

 
DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM COMPETITION

It will be held during the Festival and the following official awards will be given:

• 1st prize · DOCUMENTARY DANZANTE AWARD
5,000€ and a trophy. It will be automatically qualified for the Documentary Short Films category of the Oscar Academy Awards for the corresponding year.

• JOSÉ MANUEL PORQUET IBERO-AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY DANZANTE
2,000€ and a certificate. For the best short documentary produced in an Ibero-American country: If the 1st Danzante Documentary Award happened to be given to a work of Ibero-American production, this award would be given to the second best Ibero-American work according to the jury.

JINETE HIBERICO DOCUMENTARY DEBUT FIRST WORK AWARD:
€1,000 and trophy. Granted by the Institute of Altoaragoneses Studies. Debut work is understood as the 1st and 2nd realization by the director. If the work is co-directed, this condition must apply to all directors. Works produced under the auspices of a school that have had commercial distribution or screenings at festivals will count for their director(s) as part of the total number of realizations.

Awarded by the Youth Jury.

THE AUDIENCE AWARD

Aragón Televisión will grant the “Audience Award” with the following considerations:
- All the works selected will compete.
- It will be awarded by the vote of the audience.
- The award consists of the purchase of the broadcasting rights by Aragón Televisión for a value of 900€, as well as its promotion and broadcasting, with the consent of the authors will be requested.

52nd Edition of Huesca International Film Festival

I. PURPOSE

1. The purpose of the Huesca International Film Festival is to promote cinema culture through short films, sharing innovative proposals in this field.
 

II. ORGANIZATION

2. The Festival is organised by the Fundación Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca.

3. The 52nd edition of the Huesca International Film Festival will be held from 7th to 15th June 2024 and will include the following competitions:

· IBERO-AMERICAN (SPAIN, LATIN AMERICA, AND PORTUGAL)
· INTERNATIONAL (REST OF THE COUNTRIES)
· DOCUMENTARY (ALL COUNTRIES)
 
All three competitions vie for the different Danzante Awards. These awards are detailed in Point VIII and are qualifiers for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science and the Academy Award Oscars.

To register, participants must take the main country of production as a reference for the works. Incorrect registration may result in disqualification.

III. GENERAL CONDITIONS

4. The festival is open to fiction, documentary, animation and experimental short films. Although there is no restrictions in terms of subject, tourism-oriented films or advertising short films, as well as TV series are excluded.

5. Authors may submit as many short films as they wish. The registration fee for each short film will be 2.5 euros (Festhome platform costs not included).

6. Any work produced after 1st January 2023 that have not been registered in previous editions of the festival may be submitted.



7. The films will be presented in their original language. If the original version of the films is not Spanish or English, they must be registered and subtitled in Spanish or English.

8. The maximum duration will not exceed 30 minutes except for short documentaries that can last up to 40 minutes.

9. Fiction and animation short films from the countries of the Ibero-American community will be registered in the Ibero-American Short Film Competition. The winners of this competition, along with all those deemed deserving by the Selection Committee, will then participate in the International Competition.

10. A diverse and qualified committee will oversee the selection (process) of the short films that will be part of the three competitions. The results of the previously mentioned selection will be communicated to the person indicated on the registration form.

IV. REGISTRATIONS

Non-documentary short films must be registered in the corresponding competition (Ibero-American or International) taking as a reference the main country of production of the works. Documentary short films must be registered in the documentary short film contest, regardless of their country of production. Incorrect registration may result in disqualification.

11. All registered short films must comply with the following rules:

· The submission deadline is Thursday, 8th February 2024. Deadline expires at 23:59 on the 8th February 2024 Central European Time CET (UTC+1).

· Registration will be done online through the “Festhome” platform at www.festhome.com by completing all its mandatory sections. The participant will be responsible for any charges related to this platform as well as the Festival registration fee.

· The participant will create an account on this platform and will upload the video file with subtitles embedded in English and/or Spanish, in the case of works whose original version is not Spanish or English.

· Those participants who might have problems to register online, due to their geographical location and conflicts in the country, may apply to participate in the short film competition by sending an e-mail to peliculas@huesca-filmfestival.com
 


V. SELECTED SHORT FILMS: SENDING AND SCREENING COPIES

12. The selected short films must be sent in a master copy without subtitles, attaching a subtitle file in SRT format for each of the requested languages: English (mandatory) and Spanish (requested). Failure to send the requested material after notification, within the established period, may be grounds for disqualification.

13. Those selected must send a file with an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) to peliculas@huesca-filmfestival.com (if they did not previously upload the material to Festhome). The file should contain:

· Three frames or photographs representative of the short film and a photograph of the director. The preferred format will be a digital file, 300 dpi, JPEG or Tiff with an approximate size of 10×15 cm.
· Bio-filmography of the director in a maximum of 600 characters

They should also fill in the registration form and send it within the requested time. Failure to complete the form properly and send it within the established deadlines may lead to the exclusion of the short film from the final selection.

14. The participants authorize the organisation of the Festival to use fragments of the selected works for their broadcast in any media in order to promote the Festival. Additionally, the Festival may use photographs of the short films and directors in the press and other media, as well as for the preparation of the Festival catalogue. The sending of the EPK implies acceptance of all these conditions.

15. The Festival must have received the selected short films in their exhibition format before April 2nd, 2024. The files will be sent through the specific server that the festival will make available to the authors for that purpose. The sending date must be communicated by e-mail: peliculas@huesca-filmfestival.com. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the ruling out of the work.

16. The master copies of the selected short films must be sent in Prores 422 or similar format, WITHOUT embedded subtitles. In addition, subtitles must be sent in SRT format in English (compulsory) and in Spanish (requested). Only STR subtitles will be accepted. Any exception to the above must be assessed by our technical department for any special case. The exact technical specifications will be communicated at the time of request for these materials.

The festival reserves the right to request additional projection copies in other formats to fulfil its technical needs.

17. The selected short films will be recoded for their final screening, adding subtitles in English and Spanish to be screened in DCP format.

18. The Festival will not pay any amount to the authors or people in charge of the selected works, for their exhibition during the festival.

19. The selected short films will become part of the archive of the Fundación Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca. They may be consulted privately for educational or research purposes.

20. If necessary, the Festival will bear the cost for the return of non-awarded copies.

21. Any work that does not offer the necessary technical guarantees for a proper public projection can be rejected.
 
 
VI. JURY

22. The juries of each respective competition will decide on awarding the prizes and trophies among all the short films selected for the official section of the three competitions.

23. Their decision will be unappealable. The members of the jury will pledge to keep the secrecy of their decisions until the end of the official awards presentation and the closing ceremony of the Festival.

IX. ABOUT THE AWARDS

24. None of the awards listed in the Competitions may be declared void or given to two participants.

25. All the prizes will be awarded to film directors, with the exception of the Script Award, and the films produced by academies, schools or institutions dedicated to teaching cinematography. The Script Award will be awarded to the scriptwriter or writers.
 

X. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

26. After the Festival, short films that have won awards or special mentions in cultural and educational programmes may be broadcast on a non-profit basis with prior notification of the author for their consent.

27. Participants shall be responsible for the non-infringement of the rights of third parties related to the production of the registered film.

28. Any registration to one of the competitions implies the acceptance of these Regulations, including Annex I attached.

29. The Huesca International Film Festival will resolve, in its unappealable judgment, any eventuality not specified in these Regulations.

30. These regulations will be published in Spanish and English. For any matter related to language interpretation, the reference text will be the Spanish version.

ANNEX I. ONLINE FESTIVAL

OFFICIAL ONLINE CONTEST
The official contest will be both offline and online.
The online sessions will be held at indihome.tv (Festhome platform) to which users will be able to access on the dates of the Festival, from June 7 to 15, 2024. All the films will be protected with the Indiehome platform encryption. The Festival guarantees that the online premiere also enter the qualifications for the Oscar and Goya Awards.
The short filmmaker will have the right to limit the online projection of his/her film in the country/countries that he/she considers, outside Spain. He/she will also be able to limit the number of allowed reproductions, being 500 the minimum established by the organization. Any communications related to space limitation and online passes will be made through the email peliculas@huesca-filmfestival.com.
The short filmmaker will have the right not to participate in the online section, for which he must send his express waiver of said participation in writing by writing to peliculas@huesca-filmfestival.com.
