The International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia – HUMANS FEST is organized by Funadación por la Justicia, in collaboration with different NGOs from Valencia. The main aim is to sensitize and raise awareness about Humans Rights through art and culture.

The purpose of the Festival is to promote a kind of cinema that shakes hearts and minds of society. For this reason we bet on a selection of documentaries, offering a rough and first handed looks at different themes treated: LGBTI rights, the right to access to education, immigration amongst others.

The Festival will celebrate its 10th edition in February 2019.

RULES & REGULATIONS

X International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, HUMANS FEST

The Fundación por la Justicia of the Valencian Community, non-profit organization dedicated to the defense of Human Rights, launches the CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR FEATURE DOCUMENTARIES and SHORT FILMS ON FREEDOM for the International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, HUMANS FEST which will take place in Valencia (Spain) from the 13th to 24th of February 2019.

CALL FRO ENTRIES - FEATURE DOCUMENTARIES
The nature of the Call is competitive, with a prize of 3.000 Euros for the Best Documentary. Eligibility of the works is stated as follows:

• Minimum duration 55 minutes.
• Be an original work and to treat the themes of Human Rights.
• Works realized after 1st of January 2017.
• Genre: Cinematographic documentaries.
• Exhibition format: Digital HD.
• Submission has a cost of 10 Euros. The Organization might provide a waiver for the filmmakers or producers that find it difficult to pay for the fee. Please contact info@humansfest.com for more information.

CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR SHORT FILMS
The theme of this year is: FREEDOM. Short films on the concept of freedom as expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, […]without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”) and in its different articles: freedom from slavery and torture, of arbitrary detention, attacks on their privacy and honour, etc…; freedom of movement, marital freedom; freedom of thought, conscience and religion; freedom of opinion and expression, assembly and association; political and labour freedom, as well as social and cultural. The theme should be the violation of these freedoms and/or their achievement.

The nature of the Call is competitive, with a prize of 1000 Euros for the Best Short Film. Eligibility of the works is stated as follows:
• Maximum duration of 30 minutes.
• Be an original work and to treat the themes of FREEDOM.
• Works realized after 1st of January 2017.
• Genre: fiction, documentary and animation.
• Submission has a cost of 3 Euros. The Organization might provide a waiver for the filmmakers or producers that find it difficult to pay for the fee. Please contact info@humansfest.com for more information.

Submissions
1.- Submission will be possible only through the online platform Festhome.
2.- Deadline for submission is 16th September 2018.
3.-Works must be submitted in their original language. If the language is not Spanish, they must be subtitles to Spanish (preferred) or English.

Selection
4.- In case of selection, the person who submitted the film will be notified and will be contacted with instructions about the sending of the projection copy and material.
5.- Any expenses will be covered by the person in charge of the submission/selection. The Festival is not responsible for any damage that might occur.
6.- The Festival will notify later on the non-selected applicants
7.- In case of selection, the Festival will not pay any fee if the documentary was submitted through this call for entries.
8.- The Festival will realize itinerant exhibitions of the selected works in its national and international branches. The acceptance of this rules and regulations implies the authorization for the exhibition from the rights holders
9.- The Selection Committee is formed by Festivals Members and by documentary experts. The Committee will follow the criteria of quality and creativity that the Festival Direction would have decided previously.

Jury
10.- The Jury is formed by recognized figures of the audiovisual and cultural sector, as well as figures linked to the human rights area. Jury members will be duly announced before the celebration of the Festival.
11.- Jury decision is final.
12.- The winning documentary will be announced during the Closing Ceremony of the IX International Film and Human Rights Festival of Valencia, HUMANS FEST.

Legal note
13.- The Festival Organization supposes that the producers or filmmakers submitting the films through this call for entries own the exhibition rights of the films submitted, therefore the Festival is exempted of any civil or penal responsibility.
14.- Submission implies the acceptance of these rules and regulations, and the Festival Organization is the only responsible for their implementation.
