Umana Solidarietà is an international event which, in accordance with the United Nations Statute and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, through the screening of films from around the world, promotes respect for the fundamental human rights, the dignity and the value of the human person, for the equality of the rights of man and woman, as well as the culture of good politics that places the mankind and his right to happiness at the center of his action.

In this way, Umana Solidarietà aims to raise awareness of the audience on the relevance, protection and promotion of human rights, and to promote a system of values that supports harmonious relations between different people – regardless of the reason for their difference

At the same time, Umana Solidarietà aims to promote the social progress through a fruitful exchange of ideas and experiences among the general public, as well as direct confrontation with authors, scientists, researchers and scholars, journalists, public administrators, politicians and intellectuals, with the triple function of informing, inspire renewed passion for activism and generating actions of empowerment of skills, particularly those of young people.

The competition is open to all producers / authors (companies, associations, schools and individuals). Individuals, both professionals and non-professionals, must be 18 years of age at the time of registration of their work. The works created by minors can be registered by those who exercise parental authority.

We are looking for films wich celebrate civil commitment in favor of human rights, democratic values, the rule of law, freedom of expression, political and cultural pluralism or that they report their absence or violation. They can deal with the issues of politics, civil rights, social movements, youth movements, political history, peace, tolerance, welcoming refugees, inspiring stories of those who want to change the world and historical personalities.

The films in competition will be screened starting from January 2020 and the final event will take place in Lecce in September 2020. All views will be free of charge.

As a political and cultural event, Umana Solidarietà offers a wide audience screenings, public debates, conferences, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, dialogues and shows.

plus 2 special prizes:

• Best Film about the reception of refugees: award dedicated to the best refugee reception history.
• Citizen Award: prize of the popular jury present at the screenings.

Submission of an entry to Umana Solidarietà implies recognition and acceptance of these regulations without reservation. Once a film being made available by its right owner(s) is selected, it cannot be withdrawn from the event.

Any producer/author may enter more than one film. Each entry must be submitted as a separate entry.

Non-Italian language works must have Italian subtitles at the time submitted.: film-makers submitting films with dialogue other than Italian must send a copy of the film with Italian subtitles and a dialogue list, if possible either in Italian and English.

Projects must have been completed after January 1, 2018

Film-makers of the selected films will be asked to send, as soon as possible, at least 3 color photos either as print, minimum size13x18 cm, or in digital format jpeg or tiff, 300 dpi, promotional images, trailer and promotional text to be integrated into event promotional material. The photos will be used in the catalogue and in the press for promotional purposes. Such use is deemed authorized free of charge. A high quality copy of selected films will be requested for the screening.

The screening copy must be sent to Umana Solidarietà by its rights holder (at his charge) 30 days before event opens. Unless otherwise agreed, screening copies of selected films sent from non-European Union countries should be labelled “No commercial value. For cultural purposes only”
The DVD/Blu-ray screening copies and digital files of films screened at Umana Solidarietà will not be returned. Any copyright owners agree to leave the films in the archives of Umana Solidarietà for the sole purpose of research, cataloguing, as well as with the goal of promoting them and recommending them to other festivals or events. The archives will be kept in a dedicated storage unit.
The films that are not selected will not be returned.

Associazione Progetto Civitas does not pay any screening fee for films selected by submission: by entering a film in Umana Solidarietà, the copyright owner grants Associazione Progetto Civitas a gratis license to screen and exhibit the film for all purposes associated with all marketing & promotion activities, missions, and/or events of the Associazione Progetto Civitas organization.
The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.
Any determined breach of copyright will mean your film cannot be accepted for the competition.

By submitting his/her film, each Entrant:
• Claims and warrants to be entitled to all rights to the Entry and any of its components;
• Ensures that the contents of the same are freely available and do not violate the laws, regulations or rights of third parties, in particular the regulations governing the
copyright and image rights;
• Ensures and declares that the work does not contain defamation of any kind;
• Ensures that all music licences (including, without limitation, all syn-chronization,
mechanical and master-use licences, as applicable) have been obtained and all
payments have been made that are required for the public performance of the music
incorporated in the film.
By submitting your film, the undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Associazione Progetto Civitas from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

JURIES and AWARDS
Submissions will be judged by the organization's experts who will decide which films will be officially selected. For each of the competitive sections a jury of experts and the general public will evaluate the films in the official selection and award prizes and special mentions, together with relevant citations. The awards, which could include a money prize in proportion to the event yearly budget, are as follows:

• Umana Solidarietà International Award;
• Umana Solidarietà Italian Award;
• Umana Solidarietà Animation Award;

plus 2 special prizes:

• Best Film about the reception of refugees: award dedicated to the best refugee reception history.
• Citizen Award: prize of the popular jury present at the screenings.

Special prizes and mentions will be decided at the juries’ discretion.
The judge’s decision is final.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
* Submissions must be made via Festhome and other platforms.
** In any case, the signed entry form must be sent to our email address spice@progettocivitas.net specifying the title of the film sent and on which platform it has been uploaded.

In the event of a dispute concerning the interpretation or application of this Rules&Terms the Italian language shall prevail. In case of dispute, the competent court is the Tribunal of Lecce.
