International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival 2020
Our goal is to move people with animation.

International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival invites the international community to join us to delight in all things animated. After months of preparation and anticipation, we are excited to release the new visual identity from our collaborative efforts for International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival.

Team: International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival is run by ”George Enescu” National Arts University, Graphics Departement, with Modesta Lupașcu, CEO and Festival Director. Bianca Simionescu is responsible for the seminars - as festival coordinator.

ISAFAF is well known as a progressive and inclusive festival that celebrates a wide variety of animation, standing in close contact with the audience and connecting the animation sector.
The animation is everywhere, from the smallest smartphone screen to the largest cinematic projection. International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival unites artists, practitioners, students and enthusiasts and all those in between to savour the many and varied achievements of the animated form.

International Student Animated Film Animafantasia Festival, dating back to 2011, is the oldest and largest of its kind in the North-Eastern European region. The triennial festival now takes place on October in the town of Iassy. We want to build an animated world in three days.

The festival is a professional arena for the animation industry, as well as an important event for students and educational institutions within animation, graphic design and digital media production. Each edition, top animation industry professionals hold seminars and lectures, and the festival has previously hosted guests from national creative area.

If you’re an animation insider or just want to see something unique, you don’t have to be an animation fan to join us for animated short competitions, feature films, retrospective screenings, workshops, networking events, panel discussions, seminars and screen talks from the industry’s finest over three packed days– this year, online activities only.

One of the cornerstones of the festival is the international student animated short film competition. Prizes will be awarded for the two categories - International Animated Film and Romanian Animated Film:

- First Prize

- Second Prize

- Third Prize

- 3 Nominations (the funniest film, the most challenging film, the most intelligent film)

- Special Prize of the Audience.

Deadline and submission

• The submission opens June 1st 2020 and the deadline is September 21st 2020.

• The following material has to be sent together with each submitted film to animafantasia.official@gmail.com :

• a completed electronic Film Entry Form (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ijL6P_b0jwQmmPWn83fP0iM_pG3g3oak/view?usp=sharing)

• a link to a screening version of the film

• at least 1 digital picture from the film minimum 300 DPI (by e-mail to animafantaisa.official@gmail.com)

• If your film has dialogue that is not English, please add subtitles.

Acceptance of the Regulations

• The board of ISAFAF will decide on any cases of doubt which have not been mentioned in these regulations.

• By submitting the Film Entry Form for ISAFAF the entrants accept the terms of regulations as stated above.

• By submitting the Film Entry Form for ISAFAF the entrants accept that the information given in the entry form will be saved in the festival’s database and published in the festival’s marketing material. The information can also be shared and used by third-hand partners and co-workers of the festival.

Selection and screening:

• The pre-selection results will be announced in September 2020.

• All films selected for the competition will be screened at ISAFAF 2020, in October. The Festival administration could also select films for other programmes for the festival.
Film eligibility:

Each competing author/team of authors may register maximum 3 movies.

If more than one person authored the film, you confirm, by submitting the film, that you have the necessary consent from its co-authors to submit the film.

Meets eligibility any animated short film, created by students, graduates, PhD students from any university of arts in Romania / all over the world countries.

Length - Films should be up to 15 minutes.
Animation method: All animation methods are eligible: hand-drawn, 2D/3D computer animation, stop-motion, pixilation, rotoscope, motion capture, compositing with live-action (live-action films must have a strong animation component).

All genres of animation are eligible: narrative, abstract, music video, advertisement, documentary, motion comics, non-play video game sequences, etc.

While various formats are acceptable, we prefer:
- file format .mov or .mp4 or .avi
- frame rate 24 or 25 fps
- aspect ratio 16:9
- resolution 1920x1080.*

* File Format - We will attempt to play whatever you send — but strongly prefer .mov or .mp4 files or avi. Frame Rate - We accept any frame rate — but want 24 or 25fps if you have it. Aspect Ratio - We accept any aspect ratio. All films will be displayed in a 16:9 frame, with black bars added as necessary. Resolution - Please send the highest resolution file you have got. A vertical resolution of 1080pixels is ideal. Minimum vertical resolution is 480pixels.
