FanCineQueer, the International LGBTI Film Festival of Extremadura, celebrates this year its 26th edition between the 10th and the 19th of November launching its traditional Short Films Call with the purpose of recognising, visibilising and fostering the production and dissemination of recent or unreleased LGBTI works.
There will be two prizes of € 350 in cash for the Best Short Film and for the Best Documentary Short Film, which will be awarded after the end of the festival.
The short films will be eligible for other prizes which will be announced at a later date (prizes in our extensions or from our sponsors).
THEME AND DURATION - The short films that are presented will address lesbian, gay, bisexual,
trans, intersex or queer themes, and may be of any genre (fiction, documentary, experimental,
video art, etc.) They will have a duration of less than thirty (30) minutes. Works of any
nationality that have been produced and premiered throughout 2021, 2022 and 2023 and that
have not been presented in previous editions, will be accepted.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE - The deadline for the submission is 11:59 p.m., September 1st, 2023.
(UTC+2: CEST, Madrid) with no possibility of postponement.
SUBMISSION OF MATERIALS - The short films will be submitted (with subtitles embedded in
Spanish if the short film is in another language) through the Click For Festivals and FestHome
platforms. Registration through any of these two channels excludes the submission of works
through any other unless explicitly requested by management.
FORMATS - The formats accepted for the exhibition are AVI, MP4 H.264, MOV, with a
minimum resolution of 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall (Full HD).
PRESELECTION - The festival reserves the right to reject those works that do not meet a
minimum of technical quality or that do not sufficiently clearly reflect the themes of the call in
any of its plots or subplots, as well as those that have already been presented in previous calls.
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION - A jury made up of specialists in Audiovisual Communication,
Cultural Management and LGBTI Activism will select, from among the pre-selected works, a
sample that will be included in the festival's program, and from which the two awards for this
year will be given:
– Best Short Film 26th FanCineQueer
– Best Documentary Short Film 26th FancineQueer.
The selected works will be notified before October 15th, 2023 through the email address
provided during registration.
The festival will not notify non-selected pieces and it will make public the list of those that
have been chosen later. The authors of the selected works may only communicate publicly or
carry out any type of dissemination about their participation in the festival once it has been
announced through the official channels.
AWARDS - Two monetary prizes are established, both endowed with an amount of €350 in
cash for Best Short Film and Best Documentary Short Film, which will be paid after the
conclusion of the festival.
The short films may be eligible to other Awards that can be announced later on (awards in our
extensions or from our sponsors).
PROMOTION - Extracts of the titles selected for broadcast on television and broadcast through
other media may be used for promotional purposes, as well as the rest of the material
provided to the organization. The festival must be informed in writing of any restrictions that
the selected works may have in this regard.
RESPONSIBILITIES - The festival does not assume responsibility in case of deterioration or loss
of materials during transport and/or exhibition. Nor will it be responsible for infringements
related to copyright, this being the responsibility of whoever registers the work.
