The Audience Award shall be decided by the audiences of all screenings during the whole festival. Finally, there will be an O.C.I.C. Prize, the Opera Prima Prize and the FIPRESCI Uruguay Prize.

32th INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF URUGUAY
Montevideo, 10th to 20th April, 2014

Regulations

1. - Aims. The International Film Festival of Uruguay aim to create and hold interest in the cinema by introducing worthwide films to a huge audience, making a positive contribution to the art forms of film and video, and stimulating intelligent film-viewing among the general public. It aim to present films of merit which might not otherwise be shown in this region, to gain attention and publicity for the films shown and to assist in their wider distribution in this region. It aims to be a frame for meetings and discussions of regional projects of interest and to promote better understanding among people and nations through the film medium.

2. - Organization. The Festival is organized by Cinemateca Uruguaya, a member of FIAF (Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film), under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism and the Council of Montevideo. The Festival is independent and prizes shall be granted by a Jury of Critics and by the audience.

3. - Sections. The Festival has three main sections: Competition, Panorama and Focus &
Retrospectives, with its correspondent subsections: a) International Feature Film Competition
b) International Short Film Competition c) Uruguayan Short Film Competition d)
Iberoamerican Feature Film e) International Panorama e) International Short Films
Panorama.
Some retrospectives of filmmakers and countries will be also presented.
Films wishing to compete should have been finished after January 1st, 2013. It Is
possible to present films that were selected by other festivals abroad.

4. - Registrations. In addition to those films whose participation shall be expressly
requested, national or international organizations, TV channels, Producer Associations and independent producers from Latin America as well as from any other continents are encouraged to entry films. January 20th, 2014, is the deadline for the reception of the entry forms, together with a preview DVD for selection. If the film has not a Spanish version (spoken or subtitled) the screener should be English or French subtitled and the registrant should provide a transcription by email of the dialogues/text list in English or French.

5. - Language. If the film is selected to be screened at our festival, is not imperative, but it is desirable that the screening copies are Spanish subtitled. Should this not be the case, the screening copies should be accompanied by a list of texts or dialogues in Spanish or English.
If the film is spoken either in French or Portuguese it is desirable that the registrant provide a transcription of the dialogue list both in its original language and in English. Films that have not a Spanish subtitled screening copy will be screened with electronic subtitles. Our Festival does not accept films dubbed into Spanish.
There is no fee to enter the Festival, however, preview tapes/DVD's will not be returned.

6.- Screenings. The screenings of the Festival would take place in Montevideo from April 10th to 20th 2014, at a rate of a daily show in each one of the film theatres with a maximum of two screenings in different theatres. An additional third screening could be possible, at a place specially appointed to this effect, with admission by invitation only for critics and jury members.

7. -Transport of prints. Once a film or video is accepted for screening in the Festival, the deadline for the reception of screening prints is April 1st, 2014. They should be addressed as follows:

The entrant must pay the shipping costs of the screening prints to the Festival unless other arrangement is made with the Festival Direction. Collect shipments will not be accepted. All international entries must be sent to the Festival office with all transportation charges, duties and taxes prepaid by the shipper unless other arrangements are made with the Festival Director before the shipment.
The Festival will do its best to follow the instructions indicated in the entry form, for the return of the prints.

At the moment of shipping the prints, the shipper should inform CINEMATECA URUGUAYA by e-mail both to cinemuy@chasque.net and programfest@gmail.com, the AWB number, the air company and flight number.

8. - Insurance of prints. Prints will be insured against all risks during their stay in Uruguay, but not before or after their expedition. The insurance amount equals the cost of a new laboratory print, based on the prices at the laboratories in Buenos Aires.

9. - Information and publicity materials. The Festival needs to receive promotional
material on every film selected for screening (press books, film photos, posters, filmmaker’s photos, video-synopsis, trailers). This allows offering the Uruguayan audience and the national and international press accurate information on each film. Such materials must be submitted to the Festival offices before March 1st 2012.

10. - Awards. The Festival Jury shall award: a) Best Feature Film b) Best International Short
c) a Jury Special Prize for Artistic Quality, d) Best Ibero-American Film e) Best uruguayan short; f) any honourable mentions the Jury recommend. The Audience Award shall be decided by the audiences of all screenings during the whole festival. Finally, there will be an O.C.I.C. Prize, the Opera Prima Prize and the FIPRESCI Uruguay Prize.

11. – Itinerant exhibition. The Festival will be allowed to include selected films in its
itinerant exhibition only with the previous consent of its directors/producers/distributors, duly expressed in the signed application form.

12. - General dispositions. The registration or participation of a film or video implies the full acceptance of these conditions. The Festival Direction shall decide on cases not foreseen under the present regulations.
