LIMA - PERU, 2019

1.1- Greetings from El Último Cine Club Cultural Association, officially announcing its call for entries to the 2nd Insólito: International Horror & Fantasy Film Festival, to be held in Lima, Peru from 7-17 February 2019.

1.2- The Festival’s main venue is the Mario Vargas Llosa Auditorium Theatre in the Peruvian National Library, which will host our Opening and Closing Galas.

1.3- Insolito’s goal is to offer a selection of fantasy/horror films from all corners of the globe, with emphasis on the most creative current projects on offer. We are also committed to promoting and exhibiting genre films from Peru and the rest of Latin America.

This is a place to discover new emerging talents, develop film projects, and foster an appreciation for horror, fantasy, science fiction, exploitation, and every other type of genre filmmaking that subverts the widely accepted notions of “artistic prestige”.

2.1- The Festival has three (3) competitions:

• INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: Films with a runtime of 60 minutes or more, completed after December 2016. Must be previously unreleased in Lima.

• INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION: Films with a runtime of 30 minutes or less, completed after December 2016. Must be previously unreleased in Lima.

• NATIONAL COMPETITION: Peruvian films of any length, completed after December 2016.

2.2- There will be an Official Jury for each competition, made up of filmmakers, journalists and other notable cultural figures. These juries will select their respective winners. The following awards will be presented: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Artistic Achievement, which will group all the technical aspects of a film as a whole (photography, editing, costuming, makeup, art direction, special effects, etc.) or those that stand out, according to the jury’s criteria.

2.3- The official Insólito trophies are: Black Cat for the Best Film in The International Competition; White Cat for the Best Film in the International Short Film Competition; and the Mestizo Cat for the Best Film in the National Competition.

3.1- In case the film’s spoken language is not Spanish, screener and projection copies must have either Spanish or English subtitles. If the film is selected, it must be necessary to send the subtitles in SRT format or other with time code. The Festival will only accept projection copies in DCP, Blu-Ray and HD Video (MKV, MP4) formats.

3.2- Entries can be submitted via the INSÓLITO account on Festhome. Final deadline for submissions is Saturday 15 December 2018.

Note: Only films that meet the criteria outlined in this document will be considered. If entry is incomplete, it will be out of contention.

4.1- The selected films will be revealed in January 2019 via the Festival’s website:, and its social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

4.2- The selected filmmakers will be notified by the Festival organizers and asked to signed a consent form where they comply with the rules and confirm their participation.

4.3- Insólito will care for the films for the Festival’s duration. It will not be held accountable for any damage caused by situations outside of normal circumstances.

5.1- By submitting their work, all participants agree to the rules and regulations contained herein. Any objections will be resolved by the Festival’s artistic directors without further appeal.

5.2- This includes permission from the filmmakers to possibly include their work in further activities, such as post-Festival screenings potentially held in Lima or other Peruvian cities.
