- The Brazilian film programs will shows a selection of pieces made between 2016 and 2017 that have not participated in earlier editions of this Festival. The international program will be made up of representatives pieces from the same period.

- The Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema will take place between November 1 - 8, 2017.

- Films should be no longer than 30 minutes in length.

- The list of selected films will be released officially by September 29, 2017.

- The formats for film exhibition will be DCP or H264. Other formats may eventually be used and will be analyzed case by case by the festival producers. Expenses with transportation for the returning of copies will be incurred by the Festival.

- The copies of the selected films must be at the Festival address no later than October 20, 2017. Other promotional material, such as posters and flyers, should be received by the festival organization no later than October 27, 2017.

- A list of dialogs – in English – of the selected films must be sent by October 7 so that electronic subtitles may be done. We would like to make it clear that pieces that do not submit the dialogs on English will not be subtitled, and this may negatively affect the evaluation of the jury and of the audience.

- The films selected must send until October 13th a declaration, according to the template that will be sent by the Festival Organization, proving they have the copyright to the images and the soundtrack being screened during the festival.

RIO DE JANEIRO INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL – CURTA CINEMA is exclusively dedicated to the promotion and exhibition of short-length audiovisual works. The Festival shows works produced in digital format, with a maximum length of 30 minutes, both competitive and informative. The program of the Festival in 2017 will be made up of: International Competition, National Competition, Latin-American Panorama, Rio de Janeiro Panorama and Special Programs, with the objective of exhibition, distribution and production of short-length audiovisual works. Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema qualifies the winners of its National and International Grand Prix to enter the competition for an Oscar nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Besides showing films, the Festival promotes workshops, debates and lectures. Entries for films for the competitions, panoramas and special programs, and all the parallel activities of the Festival are free.

The producers of the selected films will be informed in advance for them to accept participating in prize contests which may imply the cession of exhibition or correlated rights.

1. Objective
The objective of the Festival is to promote and stimulate reflection on the short film format, seeking to enhance the exchange between Brazilian and international producers. The Brazilian film programs will show a selection of pieces made between 2016 and 2017 that have not participated in earlier editions of this Festival. The international program will be made up of representative pieces from the same period.

The Festival is organized by FRANCO – Associação Franco Cultural.


3. Period
Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema will take place between November 1 and 8, 2017.

5. Entries
5.a. Entries for Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema are open from June 9 to July 20, 2017.

5.b. Films should be submitted for the evaluation of the selection committee only to the platform www.festhome.com.

5.c. Links of the film will be accepted only in special cases and with the prior authorization of the direction or programming of the Festival. For inquiries, send email to programa@curtacinema.com.br.

5.d. Films should be no longer than 30 minutes in length.

5.e. The films sent for selection must ensure they have the copyright to the images and the soundtrack contained in the work to be exhibited at the Festival and public non-profit screenings and exempt the organization of Curta Cinema Festival from payment of any copyright when screening.


6. Criteria for selection and dispatch of copies and material for exhibition
6.a. For the International Competition Programs there will be selected a maximum of 400 minutes of films. Other films may comprise the thematic and/or special programs, with the agreement of the filmmaker/producer.

6.b. The list of selected films will be released officially by September 29, 2017.

6.c. The formats for film exhibition will be DCP and/or H264. Other formats may eventually be used and will be analyzed case by case by the Festival producers.

6.d. The copies of the selected films must be at the Festival address no later than October 20, 2017.

6.e. Other promotional materials, such as posters and flyers, should be received by the Festival organization no later than October 27, 2017.

6.f. A list of dialogs – in English – of the selected films must be sent by October 6, so that electronic subtitles may be produced. We would like to make it clear that pieces that do not submit the dialogs in English will not be subtitled, and this may negatively affect the evaluation of the jury and of the audience.

6.h. Expenses of transportation for the returning of copies will be incurred by the Festival.

6.i. With the authorization of the entrant, all information from the entry form of selected films, as well as up to 30 seconds of images from the film may be published and exhibited (streaming) on the Festival website on the internet: www.curtacinema.com.br



7. The Jury
The jury will be comprised of professionals from the cinema and culture, invited by the organization of the Festival, and will decide on the prizes listed below. The decision of the jury is supreme and independent.
