Festival start: 21 May 2020      Festival end: 21 June 2020

The Trailer Film Festival is a unique event. Only trailers are screened and the audience is exclusively film industry.

The goal is for the industry to request the film or script attached to the trailer.

100 producers, distributors and studio execs, including Fox, Paramount and Disney, attended our last festival. 45 filmmakers received requests for their films or scripts. Some had multiple requests which brought the total to 95.

Netflix, Amazon, Sony and Paramount have already agreed to join us on May 21st, 2020. New attendees will be announced monthly.

Trailers for both completed projects and scripts are eligible. They can be for films, scripted and unscripted TV shows, books, web series or games.

Five judges will review the trailers. The 60 with the highest score will be selected. They'll be available to the industry online for a month after the festival. 25 of those trailers will be featured in the actual event which will be held in a Beverly Hills screening room.

The prize is getting your script or film requested by a film executive and getting it sold!

2019/20 TRAILER FILM FESTIVAL

COMPETITION RULES

The following rules govern all film submissions to the Trailer Film Festival (“TFF” or the “Festival”)

GUIDELINES

• Trailers should be a maximum length of 3 minutes. We will watch longer, but if your trailer is selected, you would be asked to edit to the required length and a new link submitted.

• All credits should be removed. We will watch trailers with credits, but if selected, you would be asked to remove them and a new link submitted.

• If your short film is 5 minutes or less, you can submit the entire film. Over this length, we would require a trailer to be cut.

• On the Submission Form, you will be asked for a link to your trailer. If there is a password, please include it on the form. Passwords can causes complications, so we would prefer a direct link.

• DVDs are not accepted.

RULES

1. Submissions must be accompanied by the applicable submission fee PER ENTRY and a completed online entry form. All trailers must be in English or have English subtitles at the time submitted.

2. Trailers must be submitted as an online streaming video directly to TFF or via a participating submission platform (Festhome), a password-protected streaming URL.

3. In the event of a password change or link change after submitting, you must email the Festival immediately with that change so we may update your record. If the Festival is not
notified of the change and the link is found to be inactive or the password to be incorrect, the submission may be deemed ineligible.

4. Trailers that are selected for the live event must be submitted as digital files to our specified requirements. The Festival does NOT screen films on Blu-Ray, HD-CAM, or DCP. If you
are unable or unwilling to provide us your film as a digital file for exhibition, do not submit your film.

5. Films attached to the trailer must be completed by May 1st, 2020.

6. Trailers that have been submitted to TFF in previous years are eligible to be resubmitted, provided they are eligible according to all of TFF’s current rules.

7. Trailers for films that have US distribution (obtained prior to being selected for TFF screening) or films produced, financed or initiated by a major film studio or television network are ineligible for competition. Selection for screening will be determined no later than one month prior to the festival. Films attached to trailers that have screened on US network or cable television or distributed to theaters prior to the festival dates are also ineligible for competition.

8. Films that have played in previous festivals are eligible.

9. Short films that are publicly available online prior to the Festival are ineligible.

10. Private invite-only screenings (for instance for cast and crew or donors) do not affect a film’s eligibility.

11. TFF reserves the right in its sole discretion to reject or disqualify any ineligible entries, without a refund.

12. Trailers that are selected for the online showcase may not necessarily be selected for the Festival live event. Notifications regarding potential selection for competition status possibly may occur subsequent to notifications of acceptance for exhibition.

Originality and Permissions; INDEMNITY

1. Films must be the original work of the applicants. If a film is based upon another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work, applicant(s) must secure any necessary rights
to make such adaptations. However, it is not necessary to submit the adaptation rights agreements to the Festival. The Festival nor its jurists investigates or attests to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights secured. By entering the competition, you represent that you have secured all necessary rights.

2. Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks,
logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. TFF expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.

3. Trailers are screened to a private audience so there are no rights, permissions or copyright issues. The above applies only to completed projects.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. Once an entry payment has been received we cannot provide a refund. If a payment is disputed by an entrant for any reason, the entrant may be subject to any transaction fees or similar amounts incurred by TFF in connection with the dispute.

2. You MUST include your physical address in your submission.

3. Payments cannot be made by check and are online only.

SELECTED TRAILERS

1. TFF has no obligation (other than as stated in these rules or on our website) to disclose any of the following information: i) identities of screeners or judges; ii) notes, feedback, or information relating to the submitted project; and/or iii) details regarding the submission review or selection process.

2. TFF explicitly disclaims any liability or responsibility for any comments, notes, or opinions expressed about a submission, whether by TFF or by its staff and volunteers.

3. Winners will be announced by May, 2020. The judges’ decisions are final.

Please Note: The Trailer Film Festival does not waive entry fees.

TFF believes waiving entry fees hurts the integrity of the competition. The same rules and entry fees should apply to all
applicants so no one film is favored over another. In a similar respect, TFF does not invite films to be in competition. Only films that are submitted will be considered for competition.
