Weird Market 2025 is an international event taking place in Valencia from September 30 to October 5, focused on animation, video games, transmedia, comics, and board games. Its aim is to increase the visibility of emerging creative projects and promote European co-productions.
The call for projects is open to European projects at any production stage: pre-production, production, or completed. Accepted formats include animated feature films and shorts, series, web series, video games (including VR), innovative transmedia projects, comics, and board games.
Selected projects will be featured in the event’s official catalog, reaching thousands of industry professionals, and some will be presented during Weird Market, creating networking, collaboration, and funding opportunities. A recruitment session with companies seeking talent in animation and video games is also included.

Weird Market
MAJORDOCSPITCH 2025 is an open call for non-fiction filmmakers with feature-length documentaries in development, work in progress, or rough cut stages. Up to five projects will be selected to take part in a preparation and presentation program held in Palma de Mallorca.
The program includes a rehearsal session for pitching in English with an international mentor, followed by the official presentation before a panel of festival programmers, distributors, and industry professionals. Each project will have 15 minutes to present and receive feedback, as well as one-to-one meetings with invited experts.
Applications are open until September 30, 2025, and require an English-subtitled teaser, a completed form, and a registration fee of €15. The festival provides accreditation, inclusion in its catalogue, and one night of accommodation.
Awards include participation in the Industry Days of the Beldocs 2026 festival, with accreditation and expenses covered, as well as distribution consultancy from DOCMA and a one-year free membership in this association. All selected projects must acknowledge their participation in MAJORDOCSPITCH 2025 in the film’s credits.

MAJORDOCS PITCH
The artistic residency A Room of One’s Own, organized by Etxe Betea, opens its sixth edition for 2025–2026, targeting women filmmakers with feature film projects in early development. The program is open to participants of any nationality and age, accepting projects in multiple languages including Basque, Spanish, English, and others.
The residency provides a physical workspace in Bilbao for nine months, financial support of €5,000 for project development, personalized mentorship, and a feminist work approach that prioritizes care and creativity. Three in-person weeks are scheduled for workshops and meetings in November 2025, March, and June 2026, complemented by monthly remote mentorship sessions.
The main goal is to support the development of cinematic projects through comprehensive resources, professional guidance, and a collaborative community, fostering autonomy and visibility for filmmakers in the early stages of their projects.

A Room of One’s Own – Etxe Betea
Elkarrekin Sortzen is an artistic residency for filmmakers interested in developing audiovisual projects in a collaborative environment. It is open to women of all ages and nationalities with projects in Basque or Spanish, at an early stage of development.
The program includes monthly meetings in Bilbao and an intensive week in a rural house in Bizkaia, where participants share their projects, receive feedback, and work on improvements. Mentoring sessions and opportunities to present projects to professionals in the Basque audiovisual industry are also offered.
The residency aims to foster collaboration, mutual learning, and visibility for women creators in the audiovisual sector. Active participation and commitment to the program are highly valued.
Applications close on August 25, 2025. The program provides a supportive and stimulating space to advance projects, build professional networks, and strengthen creativity in a collaborative environment.

A Shelter of One’s Own is an international artistic residency by Etxe Betea aimed at women filmmakers worldwide who face structural, political, or social barriers in developing their film projects. It is particularly focused on creators from contexts of armed conflict, political repression, lack of freedom of expression, or limited audiovisual production infrastructure.
The residency provides a safe and supportive space for creative work and reflection, with professional guidance and a feminist approach. It includes nine months of accommodation in Bilbao, a €5,000 grant for project development, and monthly mentorship sessions. The participant may propose a mentor, who will be reviewed and confirmed by the residency team.
Projects can be feature films of any genre: fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, or hybrid. Films can be developed in any language, although all documentation and residency processes must be submitted in Spanish or English. This initiative seeks to promote diverse voices in cinema, creative freedom, and cultural rights, supporting those who face obstacles in bringing their work to life.
