Festival start: 08 November 2018      Festival end: 14 November 2018

Santiago International Documentary Film Festival, FIDOCS has consolidated as the main space for exchange, circulation and competition of the genre in Chile.

Along with the annual screening of the International Panorama, and other focuses, hommages and retrospectives, FIDOCS has three main competitive sections which seek to promote the exhibition of Chilean and foreign films of the broad spectrum of non-fiction, even when in their formal or ideological pursuits they are at the limit of the documentary format. These are: International Competition and National Competition. In this way, FIDOCS has positioned as one of the most renowned festivals of Latin America, has achieved the re-emergence of the genre in Chile, and has explored the relationship between documentary with other audiovisual genres like fiction, video art and experimental cinema.

FIDOCS holds industry activities like the national competition of works in progress FIDOCS First Cut, in which the jury, along with choosing a winner, gives feedback to the participants to encourage the circulation and commercialization of their films.

Educational activities include: FIDOCS School, where the best students of Santiago film and communications schools are invited to receive private expositive lectures by the main international guests of the festival; Master Classes FIDOCS, open lectures by the directors, whose movies are screened during the festival, with the purpose of deepening the reflections on the documentary language and their respective works; FIDOCS Editions, in which every year a book is published or republished; among others.

The NATIONAL FILM COMPETITION jury will award the following recognitions:

"Embassy of France" grand prize to the Best National Feature.
Exceptionally, the jury may award ONE honorable mention that specifies specific achievements of a film (editing, camera, research, etc.). The jury has no obligation to award a honorable mention.

The INTERNATIONAL FILM COMPETITION jury will award the following recognitions:
Best International Feature Film
Exceptionally, the jury may submit TWO honorable mentions that explain specific achievements of a film (editing, photography, research, etc.). The jury has no obligation to award mentions.

The winner can not be declared DESERT in any of these competitions.

Additionally, a prize will be awarded to the BEST DEBUT FILM (for filmmakers presenting its first feature film), in which all films will compete, regardless of their nationality or duration.

The winning films will be announced at an awards ceremony during the festival. The producers of the films that have received a prize or recognition commit themselves to mention this distinction in press and diffusion materials of its film, utilizing festival’s logo. This commitment applies both to commercial releases in cinemas and to the distribution of the work with or without physical supports.
