Terms and Conditions

Cartón Collective invite audio-visual filmmakers from around the world to participate in CARTÓN | 7th International Festival of Animation Shorts La Tribu (from now on “The Festival”), due to take place in the city of Buenos Aires from September 3rd to 9th, 2019.


A– All animated shorts films made between 2017 and today (recorded with any kind of device) are eligible to participate. The works can only be submitted online. For this purpose FESTHOME online platform is available (www.festhome.com). Registration is free. Participants must complete the festival registration form. Inscription is free for Argentinian moviemakers and it has a minimum cost for foriegn moviemakers that is not associated with the organization of the festival. NO FILMS SUBMITTED BY ANOTHER METHOD WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Participants must upload the shortfilm with .mov or .mp4 file extension, 1920x1080p resolution (full HD), H264 encoding with a quality of up to 2 GB, without any kind of watermark.

It is worth mentioning that the copy which will be sent for jury evaluation will be the same to be used for display during the festival. No new copy will be received after being selected work.

B- The authors can be of any nationality. Works made in languages other than Spanish must be accompanied by subtitles, which should be embedded with the image.

C- Participants can submit up to 3 (three) works per category.

D- The deadline for entry is Monday 3rd June 2019. Works presented after date will not be accepted.

E- Along with the work to compete, a zip or rar file should be attached cointaining:

• Two (2) photographs of the short with a minimum quality of 300 dpi.
• One (1) photograph of the director(s).
• One (1) image of the poster of the short, if available.
• Social networks of the short, if available.
• Trailer of the short, if available.
• Full entry form.

As a condition of entry the director or producer agrees for the work to be included in the video library of Cartón Collective and future itinerant exhibitions

F- The short films may be entered in any of the following categories:

• Fiction / Narrative
• Non Narrative
• Video clip
• Micro-shortfilm (up to one minute length)
• Series / Webseries (see chapter M)
•Thematic Award (see chapter N)
• Showing from Schools and Animation Workshops for children and adolescents (see chapter O)

G- The duration of the shorts should in no circumstances exceed 15 (fifteen) minutes. Exceeding this limit, the work will be left out of the competition. It will be the decision of the Organizing Committee, in charge of pre-selection, as to whether works outside of the competition are screened.

H- Filmmakers authorise the use of material for Festival promotion purpose and assume authorship for the shorts and commit to not present audiovisual materials and/or phonographs which they don’t have the rights to use. The rights of exhibition run under the control of The Festival, which will not pay for the screening rights. Additionally, the CARTÓN organization is not responsible for the works nor the inadequate use of the intellectual property rights on behalf of the authors. The Festival will not give any kind of economic compensation to participants and/or winners.

I- I- The organization of the Festival will pre-select the material received. The material that is selected will be allocated to the Official Competition sections and Official Screening (non-competitive) and the decisions in this regard will be unappealable. The list of selected short films will be made public the second week of August 2019 and the filmmakers whose works are in competition will be informed by email about the day their work will be screened. The organization reserves the right to relocate a work in another category if applicable.

J- The organizing committee will name a prizegiving Jury of distinguished media personalities whom will award the competitive categories.

K- The categories will be the following:

• Jury's Grand Prize,
• Best National Animation,
• Best Animated Fiction
• Best Non Narrative Animation
• Best Animated VideoClip
• Best Animated Serie/WebSerie
• Best Animated Micro-Shortfilm
• Thematic Award (see chapter M)
• Special Mentions.

The categories can be named void and the decision of the Jury will not be subject to appeal. In all cases diplomas and/or statuettes will be presented. In the case of new prizes being presented from sponsors, the same will be announced before the start of The Festival.


L- The announcement and award ceremony will take place during the closing day of the Festival. The awarded short films are committed to incorporate the "Award-Winning" logo from the Festival to their initial credits.

M- Serie/Webserie Category. The participation of one chapter per series will be admitted. The filmmaker/producer must decide which episode will send to the competition.

N- The Festival decided to grant a Thematic Award. This edition, the best short that aims to address the concept of "RIGHT TO FREE, SAFE AND LEGAL ABORTION / VOLUNTARY TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY" will be honored.
This is a parallel competition, so those who decide to participate must register the short film in the corresponding category. The shorts that are registered here will not participate in the other categories.

O- Showing from Schools and Animation Workshops for children and adolescents. Any educational institution which introduces students to the world of animation may participate in that section. The institution may belong either to the public or private education regime. Short films from special education schools will also be considered under this item. The projection of the totality of the received material for this Showing will depend on the total of minutes received and the disposition of time that the organization of the festival has for this purpose. If necessary, a selection of the material that has been received will be made.


IMPORTANT: All the items below are mandatory in order to participate of The Festival. With the registration of the material knowledge and acceptance of the terms and conditions it is assumed.
