Festival start: 23 November 2023      Festival end: 03 December 2023

Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote is a project organised by Asociación Tenique Cultural, a non-profit organisation whose main goals are to promote, diffuse and debate independent films, analyse the local context and connect it to global level.

The 13th edition of the project is scheduled to be held between November 23 and December 3, 2023.

- Official Feature Film Section: a single prize for Best Film in the Official Section, worth €6,000 (six thousand euros).
- Cruce de caminos: filmmakers from the Canary Islands: The section will have a competitive nature, with a prize of 1,000 € (one thousand euros) for the person or collective responsible for directing the best short film.

2. CATEGORIES

The public open call is divided into two sections:

- Official Section of Feature-length Films
- Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands

3. GENERAL CONDITIONS

All entries shall be produced after 1 January 2022.

In the event that the health situation generated by COVID-19 or other circumstances makes screening in theatres impossible, the organisation may present the films on an online viewing platform and / or in television broadcast formats in the Canary Islands.

No premiere status of the films will be required to be selected.

Films registered in previous editions cannot be resubmitted.

4. SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

4.1. Conditions for the Official Section of Feature-length Films

The competition is open to feature-length films of any genre and from any country or nationality.

For the purposes of this competition, a feature-length film is any film with a duration of 40 minutes or more.

There is a single prize for Best Film in the Official Selection, worth €6,000 (six thousand) euros, which may not be declared void. This amount will be subject to the withholdings specified in the legislation in force at the time of payment, which are included in the prize allocation. The prize will be divided into two equal parts. 50% will go to the film's director(s), the other 50% will go to the film's distributing company. In the event that any of these persons have assigned or delegated by contract their collection rights in favour of a third party (production companies, agents, etc.), they shall communicate in writing the existence of a prior contract of assignment of rights to the organisation of La Muestra.

Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote shall conserve a copy of the prize-winning film for its archives, and may exhibit it twice within its annual programme with a not-for-profit cultural purpose.

The organisation of Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote shall appoint a jury with a minimum of three members and a maximum of five members, whose decision is final. Members of the jury shall not have any interests in the production, distribution or any form of exploitation of the films selected for the competition. People with direct interests in the films in competition may not attend the public deliberation of the jury.

The Director or a representative of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote may be present during the deliberations of the jury — which may take place in person or telematically — having the right to speak but not to vote.

The prize-winning film shall include the image that Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote will provide in the opening credits of each copy of the film exhibited following the conclusion of the festival, both in copies for commercial film theatres as well as copies for home-cinema supports (Blu-ray, DVD or Internet), as well as in any kind of material used to promote the film.

The prize money shall be paid following the signing of an agreement between the organisation of the festival and the prize-winning film, which specifies the fulfilment of these conditions.

Once a submission has been made, it may not be withdrawn.

During Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote, the organisation may exhibit the selected films on a maximum of two occasions, with the exception of the prize-winning film, which may be exhibited on three occasions. For this purpose, the producers shall cede the rights for the public exhibition of the films for the duration of the festival, without any cost.

4.2. Conditions for the Section Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canaries

The section Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canaries is open to short films produced and/or filmed in the Canary Islands or directed by filmmakers born or resident in the Canary Islands. This condition must be accredited with official documentation.

For the purposes of this competition, a short film is any film with a duration of 30 minutes or less.

The section will have a competitive nature, with a prize of 1.000 € (one thousand euros) for the person or responsible parties in charge of directing the best short film. The prize money shall be subject to tax deductions legally in force at the time of payment, and said deductions are included within the prize money.

The Jury of this section will be the same as the Official Sections, although their deliberation will take place behind closed doors.

5. ENTRY

Films may be entered for the festival between July 6, 2023 and September 24, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (GMT+01:00, Canary Islands time).

The producers or distributors of the films shall enter them on the form available on Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote webpage (http://www.muestradecinedelanzarote.com/). The festival does not charge a fee to register films.

Films shall not be accepted for evaluation in physical formats (DVD, Blu-ray, USB...).

All the films shall be presented in their original language. In the event that the original version is in a language other than Spanish, it must be sent with subtitles in Spanish or in English.

6. CONDITIONS FOR SELECTED FILMS

6.1. Sending copies for exhibition

The deadline for sending copies for exhibition of selected films is October 16, 2023.

For questions of environmental sustainability, Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote encourages copies for exhibition to be sent online.

The formats accepted by Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote are DCP and hi-res digital files. In addition, as a back-up copy, the festival also requires a digital file in H.264 format or similar.

The films chosen for the festival must send a copy for screening with subtitles in Spanish, in the event that the original language of the film is not Spanish, or in English, and the list of dialogues in Spanish or English.

6.2. Promotional Materials

Apart from the copy for exhibition, the producers of the selected films must send and agree the use of the following material before October 1, 2023:

Viewing link with password
Hi-res poster of the film
At least three film stills in high resolution
A clip from the video of at least two minutes

7. INTERPRETATION OF CONDITIONS

Presenting films for the festival implies full acceptance of these conditions. These conditions shall be applied and interpreted by the organisation of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote.
