The Academy of Motion Picture Arts of Spain, includes it as one of the key festivals for the selection of short films that will compete in the Goya Awards. Throughout the last editions the festival has been making important decisions that commit it to the cinema of our country. In his thirteenth edition he published his manifesto where he exhibited his philosophy and commitment to film. He made the decision to pay for selection to the selected short films thus eliminating economic competition in order to encourage artistic creation and production. The deadline to register for the XXV International Short Film Festival “El Pecado 2026” is open. This year prizes are: 1,500 euros for the winning fiction short film and 700 euros for the other four main prizes. The registration period goes from Monday May 4th, to Sunday June 7th of this year, both inclusive. The duration of the short films (maximum 2 by participant) will not exceed 20 minutes (21 including credits). If it has spoken sound, Spanish or subtitles in this language shall be used. Cortomontagna prize is exclusively dedicated to short films.

The prize’s main theme is Mountain life, told and documented through a video that expresses the author's point of view and interpretation.

Possible takes on the main theme can range from the narration of sporting activities (skiing, climbing, hiking - for example), to naturalistic-environmental themes, to facts and life stories of communities or mountain territories.

The award has two categories:
