Founded in 2003, Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival China (GZDOC) is a state-level documentary film festival in China and one of the most important marketplaces in Asia



Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival China (GZDOC) has evolved from an academic seminar to one of the most influential professional documentary film festivals in the world. In terms of entry numbers and attending countries, GZDOC now ranks as the top documentary festival in Asia and stands among the top 8 major professional documentary festivals around the globe. It works with more than 30 international film festivals and a dozen industry associations to promote documentaries from various countries.



Each year, producers and directors from around the globe meet at the festival and bring their best and latest works, sharing with audiences the world behind their cameras. But also representatives from more than 100 influential documentaries broadcasting media, online streaming platforms, production houses, distribution agencies and industrial associations from China and abroad meet at GZDOC. Several thousand industry executives, decision makers, producers, content buyers, as well as award-winning directors, attend and discuss the latest trend of the industry in China and in the global market.

Ranked as the top documentary festival in Asia: In 2012, 5 Broken Cameras, directed by the Palestinian director Emad Burnat and the Israeli director Guy Davidi, won the Golden Kapok Award Best Feature Documentary Award. The film was later nominated and won the Academy® Best Documentary Feature Award in 2013. Minding the Gap, directed by the Chinese American director Bing Liu, won the Golden Kapok Best Debut Documentary Award in 2018 and was nominated for the Academy® Best Documentary Feature Award. Other renewed award-winners include Life, Animated (2016), Honeyland (2019), etc.
