*International Horror and Dissidence Film Festival Monstrua*
The International Horror and Dissidence Film Festival Monstrua is in its second edition and celebrates its first edition in the format of a film festival. Its first gathering took place at the Centro Cultural Elefante, and in this edition the festival consolidates its base in Santiago as a critical platform for the articulation of creators, researchers, audiences, and specialists linked to horror cinema.
Since its inception, the festival proposes horror as an aesthetic and political device to address dissidence. Understood as bodies, identities, memories, and narratives that escape the norm, with a particular focus on the experiences of the LGTBIQA2S+ community, the genre unfolds in Monstrua as a territory for discomfort, alterity, and the questioning of hegemonic imaginaries.
The program for this edition brings together a selection of national and international works that interrogate the limits of the genre and its capacity to push against the monstrous, the abject, and the forbidden. The screenings will be held at the historic Teatro Comunitario Novedades on Thursday, December 3, from 17:00 to 21:00 hours.
