Orvieto Cinema Fest

Orvieto, Italy

The shared memory center for democracy and peace (CMCDP) is a national human rights association with international extensions whose fields of action are:

- Issues related to memory and shared memory as knowledge and expertise;
- Promoting a culture of peace, coexistence and democracy;
- The fight against all forms of extremism;
- Defending human rights and contributing to the dissemination of their culture;
- Questions of identity and linguistic and cultural diversity.
- The consolidation and development of the values of solidarity and constructive dialogue between peoples and nations;
- Support for all generations of human rights.
It organizes an annual film festival in Nador, called the Festival International de Cinéma et Mémoire Commune (FICMEC), dedicated to the theme of memory.
In 2025, the theme of the 14th edition of the festival will be “The Memory of Peace”.
While some define peace as non-war, others go so far as to oppose it to all forms of violence. Although the preachers and emissaries of peace are constantly calling for :
- reconciliation between belligerents and warmongers to put an end to hostilities or ward off aggression and tip the balance in favor of collective intelligence;
- overcoming the stigma of the past through far-sighted dialogue and harmonious international relations;
- the promotion of a universal culture of pacifism through, among other things, the inclusion of the values of tolerance and fraternity in educational curricula;
- unanimous ratification of UN resolutions;
the resurgence of political, economic, religious and doctrinaire disputes has overtaken the voice of reason, compromising good-faith initiatives and plunging the international community into moral disarray.
The loss of life and devastation caused by any armed confrontation can be counted or at least estimated in post-war periods. Quantifiable, they provide information on the seriousness of the human and material damage caused or suffered. But who can accurately determine the impact of psychological trauma, accurately diagnose the wounds of the soul, and meticulously assess the after-effects of violence?
Memory wounds are difficult to suture in the short or medium term. To purge resentment, bend vindictiveness and soothe tormented consciences, taking the long and steep road to reconciliation seems the ideal solution for turning the bloody pages of the past. Memories, stories of resilience, forgiveness and solidarity, as well as shared painful experiences, are the best way to get rid of animosity and make way for amnesty.
The “Memory of Peace”, a concept that focuses on the elements of the past that call for appeasement and the building of a common future, has as its main foundations reconciliation and mutual understanding, learning from the mistakes of the past, anchoring the culture of non-violence in people's minds, and above all transmitting this memory to future generations through education, testimony and the arts, particularly cinema, which is a powerful vector of emotion and empathy.
In the light of the above, films will be selected that deal with one of the following themes:
- Reconciliation after war or genocide.
- Mutual understanding to overcome hatred and suffering and rebuild human and social bonds.
- Forgiveness and resilience
- Peace movements
- Emblematic figures of peace
- Learning from past mistakes
- spreading the values of justice and tolerance
- Anchoring the culture of non-violence in individual and collective memories
- Community initiatives that model peace and social cohesion
- Peace education through pedagogical approaches
As this list is not exhaustive, the festival management welcomes films dealing with other peace-related issues.

National Rural Film Festival

VII NATIONAL RURAL FILM FESTIVAL OF AYACUCHO

The Rural Film Festival was created in 2016 as an initiative presented by Lic. Emilio Quiroga to the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Ayacucho, with the goal of promoting audiovisual production in our city.

Every year, we launch an open call at the national and international level for short films of fiction and non-fiction that address the concept of "RURAL" through their form and/or content. Our intention is to explore the perspective of this concept and enrich ourselves with productions from other places in our country and the world.

The Festival offers training programs and support with theoretical and practical audiovisual production tools to those who join this initiative locally. This includes teachers and students from schools and educational institutions, community centers, organizations, or simply groups wishing to participate and residing in the city of Ayacucho.

These are some of the central concepts we have implemented over the years and will continue to develop in this space:

Short film production as a powerful educational tool that strengthens cognitive skills, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, while motivating students in an innovative way.

Basic audiovisual production training, workshops for teachers on how to guide students in creating short films. This includes teaching them the basics of planning, shooting, and editing videos. Many teachers have no previous experience in these areas, so the training helps them lead these projects.

Integrated evaluation of student-made short films across different subjects, so that teachers recognize the relevance of these projects beyond their specific area of expertise.

Collaborative projects where teachers from different disciplines (such as arts, history, literature, science, and technology) work together to create an interdisciplinary short film. This could include combining thematic areas to address a common issue from different perspectives.

Online educational resources or YouTube tutorials for teachers on how to apply film to various subjects. This may include how to shoot a scene, how to light it correctly, or how to work with sound, all at a level accessible to educators with no cinematic experience.

Access to simple editing software or online platforms (such as InShot or CapCut) that students can use at home or in the classroom to edit their projects. They can also use sound recording tools or simple effects to help with content creation.

Scriptwriting talks and courses or storyboard models that teachers can adapt to their subjects. This helps students follow a proper structure when writing their scripts, ensuring that their stories are more consistent, regardless of the area in which they are working.

We promote and encourage the cinema room in our city and other alternative screening spaces.

We foster cooperation between rural and urban schools.

We generate socio-educational projects in schools, institutes, and training centers.

We offer talks, courses, and training open to the community.

We produce audiovisual content and resources for the departments of the Municipality of Ayacucho.

We produce local short films that address fiction stories and rural documentaries, as well as other themes of interest to filmmakers.

This experience has become a phenomenon that grows each year, surpassing its initial expectations. We are motivated to make our identity known, promoting the value of Ayacuchense culture and that of our country. We emphasize human relationships and the bonds that arise from this encounter for mutual benefit.

We strengthen alliances between our community and people and groups who come to the city of Ayacucho from nearby towns, other provinces, and cities across our country, drawn by the social event and the values that the Rural Film Festival represents.

It is necessary, through our intervention, to guarantee access to a symbolic language, which is essential to navigate the world around us and construct the images and sounds of our time. This is a fundamental task for the development of society, the strengthening of democracy, equity, and access to work. We approach audiovisual media as an object to be thought about and constantly transformed.

Orlando Film Festival

Orlando, United States

Named one of the top "25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World" by Moviemaker Magazine, we're now in our 14th year of showcasing incredible cinema from around the world!

The Orlando Film Festival hosts an immersive 8 day festival full of diverse films, insightful panels & workshops, nightly parties & happy hours, a variety of interactive activities & networking opportunities and an exciting awards ceremony where prizes valued at over 1 million dollars will be awarded.

Over the course of the week an estimated 300 filmmakers from around the world will join us to showcase hundreds of films (350 in 2018 alone), to over 12,000 attendees.

Though we have hundreds of films each year, the festival is run by working filmmakers, so it is important to us that every film and filmmaker is given the attention they deserve. Every filmmaker is given time for a Q&A after their screening in order for the audience & filmmakers to really get the most out of the event and we find ways to help people connect & network where possible. Our desire is for every filmmaker to leave the festival not only having had a blast, but also with valuable experiences that will enhance their careers.

We are proud to call the state-of-the-art Cobb Plaza Cinema Café 12 our home; located right in the heart of Orlando. All our events take place in or around the theater, which is walking distance from our official festival hotels. The festival operates six auditoriums featuring beautiful high-end Barco projectors, 5.1 surround sound, plush luxury chairs - every screening is truly the real theatrical experience.

Audiences & filmmakers do not just watch quality cinema but also get an immersive experience full of spirited Q & A’s, panel discussions & workshops with industry professionals, script reads & fantastic nightly parties. This is the perfect opportunity for filmmakers and screenwriters to directly interact with their audience, as well as others in the industry.

In addition to large appreciative crowds, other perks include discounts at many of the local bars & restaurants, as well as hugely discounted rates at our official festival hotel. Our nightly parties have been known to shut down a few bars and our sponsor Stella Artois always takes care of the beer for everyone.

We also give out over 40 filmmaking and screenwriting awards with some fantastic prizes, including a ShortsTV distribution deal offer for EVERY winning short film and a first look deal with Valencia Motion Pictures; a local production company with over 3 million dollars of equipment. The average value of this collaboration is around $500,000 for an indie feature.

Many films showcased over the years have gone on to worldwide distribution & critical acclaim including Sundance Grand Jury Nominations (such as Queen of Versailles) and even one that took home an Oscar (Taxi to the Dark Side).

We've also been honored with participation from slew of celebrity guests including Kevin Smith, Malcolm Mcdowell, Alison Brie, Michael Rooker, Haley Joel Osment, Milos Foreman, Cheryl Hines, Marcia Gay Harden, Olympia Dukakis, Patrick Fabian, Christopher Titus, Bob Hawk, and many many others.

But the truth is whether your film features a cast of A-list celebrities or it was something shot with some friends - your film's budget, clout, or it's premiere status doesn't matter to us. All we care about is showcasing high quality independent cinema.

If your film fits that simple criteria, please send it our way and join us for what will surely be our biggest year yet!

Our sponsors include Stella Artois, Cobb Theaters, VER, Valencia College, United Arts, Great Graphics Photoscan, Movie Magic, ShortsTV, and many others.
