From sailors exploring new seas to astronauts reaching space, we have always gazed to the sky with a desire to go further. Moonstep International Short Film Festival – A First Step into Cinema is created to keep looking up without ever stopping imagining. It’s an invitation to take the first step with daring, just like the first humans on the Moon.
We are looking for emerging artists, voices that demand to be heard, to offer them a space for expression and dialogue. In its first edition, this International Short Film Festival is a starting point for those who dream of making cinema their destination.
As good organizers, we too are ready to take the first step and get out there: behind the Moonstep International Short Film Festival there are 45 young people under 30, coming from Italy, Belgium and Hungary, all passionate about arts and event organization.
Moonstep is our first step into the world of cinema… and we want to do it in a big way!
M.S.F.F. reflects the essence of cinema: each film is a journey, a discovery, an act of imagination that leaves a mark. How the moon has inspired countless stories, the Moonstep International Short Film Festival wants to be a starting point for new narratives, a place where young cinematic art can shine with the same intensity as the night sky.
The moon is the perfect metaphor for a series of profound meanings that resonate with the impossible journey, the courage to explore the unknown and of course also the magic of cinema.
The subtitle A First Step into the Cinema completes the name of the festival, Moonstep, underlining its role as a launching pad for young talents. As important as the concept of "first step" does not only apply to emerging directors, who will participate in the festival, but also to festival organizers: we are a group of young people from Italy, Belgium and Hungary, who came together to give life to this event.
Theme of this edition of the Moonstep International Short Film Festival: (Dis)connection by frames is to reflect on the relationship between the individual, nature and technology, and on the way in which the various elements of our world are intertwined. The subtitle plays on the dualism between connection and disconnection, exploring how humans relate to their own reality through images, with a particular focus on the connection with the surrounding environment and the slowing down of the frenetic dynamics of daily life. Today disconnection and connection from opposites have practically become two synonyms, or one the consequence of the other, both due to the technological revolution we are facing and the continuous social changes. In this sense, the theme of alienation is central, of completely detaching ourselves from the world we live in, a world that does not seem to have understood the mistakes of the last century and continues to repeat itself; in this sense alienation is emblematic of what our generation, a generation with a strong break with previous generations and which would like to push towards a great change, but finds itself fighting with different realities (political, climatic, etc.) which barely support it. The invitation of the festival is to disconnect from the fast pace required, the constantly increasing novelties and impossible expectations, thus also finding a sort of "inner peace" by recreating moments of "slow life". Slowing down and awareness become tools of redemption, inviting us to rediscover the beauty of simplicity and authentic relationships.
Moonstep Short Film Festival is part of a project named “Be Unit”.
“Be Unit” is a youth lead project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program and promoted by a partnership consisting of Cooperativa Orso and Epica Film (based in Turin), Pour la Solidarité (based in Brussels), and Galileo Non Profit (based in Budapest).

We look for projects that talk about life in cities: protest movements, struggles to preserve historical memory, urban transformations and changes, social demands and the experiences of neighbors with their environment.
We are looking for projects that understand the audiovisual as a tool of struggle, denunciation and testimony of realities in danger of disappearing. We want to vindicate the critical, committed and cooperative spirit, making known aspects that concern society and that are not sufficiently covered in commercial medias, cinemas and the usual distribution channels. We want to show national or international works about historical, social, political and activist consciousness, personal relationships and human rights in a city.
V American Festival of Socio-Environmental Film and Video of Iraquara
Environmental and social degradation is beginning to concern humanity as a whole. This is because the pursuit of quick and easy profits generates such degradation, affecting the collective as a whole, forcing each of us to adopt changes in attitude so that, in this way, we can ensure our own survival on the planet.
The problems arising from the negative actions of humans on nature have been the focus of not only the Public Authorities but also organized civil society. Moreover, they have become a source of inspiration for artists who seek to document and denounce the deterioration of both humanity and nature. Thus, film and video are the appropriate mediums to document and expose the serious aggressions against the ecosystem. From there, providing access to works produced with this theme is a way to involve people in this movement of awareness for the preservation of the planet and the human race.
Iraquara, located in the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia, has a natural heritage of immeasurable value: it is home to the largest speleological collection in South America. And it is also for this reason that this small town contributes to this process of environmental awareness by hosting the V American Festival of Socio-Environmental Film and Video of Iraquara – V FASAI CINE VIDEO. With the goal of supporting and expanding the network of defense for the environment and humanity, films and videos—feature-length, medium-length, and short—with socio-environmental themes will be screened and awarded at the V FASAI.
The proposal will also include lectures and debates on water, that precious and finite resource that nature provides us; discussions on deforestation, which has silted our rivers and degraded once-fertile lands; and debates on one of the serious problems of our time: the tons of solid waste we produce daily and discard without any criteria into the soil. We aim to transform the debates held during the IV FASAI CINE VIDEO into concrete actions within the city itself, changing the daily lives of the local population and encouraging the practice of citizenship in each individual. The municipality will be able to show the world how the Public Authorities can and should intervene in the process of raising awareness and changing the attitudes of its population.
The V FASAI CINE VIDEO invites you, filmmakers and artists who use your craft as a tool in the fight for a better world; you, environmentalists who document your struggles with audiovisual technologies to denounce and combat the crimes we face in our daily lives, to submit your audiovisual works that address the theme of nature and its ongoing degradation to our V American Festival of Socio-Environmental Film and Video of Iraquara.
The city awaits you with open arms so that together we can propose actions that foreshadow a better quality of life in our city, in our country, and perhaps in the world!
The Bogotá International Documentary Film Festival (MIDBO), organized by the Colombian Documentary Filmmakers Corporation ALADOS, is an event specialized in documentaries that over the past 26 years has consolidated itself in Colombia and Latin America as a fundamental space for exhibition, dialogue, and thought around non-fiction audiovisual works.
For the 27th edition of MIDBO, we invite filmmakers and producers to submit their audiovisual works for the 2025 film call and to participate in various training and discussion spaces that will be held both virtually and in person during the event.
This year, the 27th edition of MIDBO will take place from October 29 to November 7 in Bogotá, Colombia. The event will tour different regions of the country throughout the year, maintaining our "Martes MIDBO-ALADOS" screening series in various partner venues.
After 26 editions, MIDBO continues to work on creating an event that fosters and trusts in reflection on documentaries, the ways in which we approach reality, with our main interest being the many ways of documenting the world. Committed to the goal of unraveling the complexity of a reality that exceeds us, we continue to build each year the ideal space to meet and reflect on documentary work.
For 2025, we maintain our interest in promoting creation and recognizing the efforts of filmmakers by offering two competitive sections: one for Ibero-American feature films and another for national short films. We will award the prize for Best Ibero-American Documentary Feature, for films longer than 60 minutes made in Ibero-America, and the prize for Best National Documentary Short, for films no longer than 30 minutes made in Colombia or by a Colombian. The jury for each competition will be announced one month before the event and will consist of three (3) artists, filmmakers, writers, critics, or cultural managers.
*** We are committed to being an inclusive event, so we will pay special attention to films that include audio description for blind individuals, closed captions, or inclusive subtitles for deaf audiences. ***
