International Festival Signes de nuit

Paris, France

Since 2003 the international Festival SIGNES DE NUIT is active in Paris, Berlin, Saarbrücken and with special screenings world wide. The festival in Paris actually presents around 300 films coming from around 50 countries at different places in Paris. In Berlin the festival will be performed in the legendary cinema Babylon.

The International Festival SIGNES DE NUIT based in Paris is made up of films, which reflects new views, original imagery and critical approach to the crucial points of the modern human existence. It is a place for cinema that expands its own boundaries, that is astonishing, different, potentially free from the pressure of tradition, ready to give itself to the unpredictable experimentation.

The minor costs of digital production makes an independant- from comercial influences and any kind of censorship- production possible. These independant productions create an alternative, an artistic space very subtle and accessible to all, in contrast to what mass media offer.

This opposition and the preservation of the free cultural space is the goal of the International Festival Signes de Nuit, which has realized screenings and interventions in 29 different countries including Algeria, Australia, Chile, Cuba, Lebanon, Lithuania, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Peru, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey and the United States beside the screenings in main festival in Paris.

PRESENTATION

The TUWUN concept represents the Mapuche territorial origin, which together with KVPALME, the family origin, represent the Mapuche identity rooted in the LOF, a territorial space that in turn is the basis of the ancestral territorial structure of a broader space, the WALLMAPU, the entire Mapuche territory.

This concept of Mapudungun, the Mapuche language, gives rise to TUWUN Muestra de Cine Indígena de Wallmapu, created with the aim of making known through cinema, that identity and the realities related from ancestral knowledge and the way in which it is understood. life from the vision and relationship of each people with their environment, with their territory, with their own history, culture and spirituality and, therefore, from their own perspective.

In this sense, we believe that the TUWUN exhibition represents a valuable opportunity to learn about the way in which life is understood from the indigenous peoples' own culture and an important space to share the perspective and reality expressed from their own representative voices, through of the cinema. In addition to contributing to the decentralization of cinema and culture, generating a process of circulation at the territorial level and taking the traveling exhibition and its complementary activities to a wide and diverse public, in urban and rural areas, with the exhibition of the participating works in various spaces, such as Mapuche communities, schools and cultural centers in towns that generally have difficulty accessing the cinema because they are far from large urban centers, also generating Nvtram (conversation) spaces around its contents.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

TUWUN is an indigenous film exhibition that consists mainly of the realization of a Central Exhibition, which takes place every year for 4 days, in the Municipal Cultural Center of Villarrica, accompanied by activities carried out in various areas of the city. And of an Itinerant Exhibition, which covers various places in Wallmapu, the Mapuche ancestral territory (southern Chile and Argentina) and is held from the month following the central exhibition, until June of the following year, where for the Mapuche people The cycle ends and begins again with the celebration of Wiñoy Tripantu (Mapuche New Year).

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES

Within the framework of TUWUN, we develop various complementary activities, both during the central exhibition and during the traveling exhibition. Among them, a TRAWUN (meeting), special screenings by guests of indigenous peoples and the Mapuche people, NVTRAMCINE (cinema forums), TUWUN screenings inserted in other film and culture competitions, screenings for schools and communities, special cycles in the summer season . And a workshop for the appreciation of cinema with identity, which we have designed for training and mediation with different audiences, such as children and young people of school age, adults, leaders of organizations, Mapuche communities, etc.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

TUWUN Muestra de Cine Indígena de Wallmapu, is coordinated and produced by ADKIMVN Cine y Comunicación Mapuche, with the sponsorship of LIQUEN Municipal Cultural Center and the Illustrious Municipality of Villarrica, and the collaboration of a network of organizations, cultural centers, municipal departments of culture, Mapuche communities and educational centers.

£2,500 in CASH PRIZES for the EMERGING TALENT from our sponsor Katie Partridge, CEO of the Saphira Group, to support a new generation of filmmakers/artists.

NEW RENAISSANCE LONDON #8

Apart from a high number of UK and International films, NRFF London has a category for EMERGING TALENT (talented Gen Z, debut or early stage filmmakers embarking on their careers in the film industry).

Previous winners and nominees have gone onto win major international prizes or have directed their first feature film.

FIRST FLIGHTS YOUNG TALENT FILM AWARD

The winner of this award will be invited to the Goldfinch studios for a one-to-one consultancy with First Flights and one of their executive producers. First Flights from the Goldfinch Studios will present this award at the New Renaissance Award Ceremony at the Courthouse Hotel Sunday 1 October. First Flights have just won a BAFTA with their short 'An Irish Goodbye,' also an Oscar nominee in the category of Best Live Action Short.

ABOUT NEW RENAISSANCE LONDON

Our friendly and welcoming art-house festival based in London is genuinely passionate about promoting the highest calibre of independent cinema around today. New Renaissance has been described as “One of the UK’s top film festivals,” alongside Raindance and Aesthetica (London METRO, O1.08.16), appeared in reputable publications such as Vogue, GQ and iD magazine, and we are a registered IMDB film festival.

Filmmakers are a discerning audience and the 100+ five star reviews from filmmakers around the world is proof of our commitment and respect for the hard work and care that goes into making a film. Since 2021, we have been awarding cash prizes to support talented up-and-coming filmmakers we believe in thanks to a generous sponsor (see below).

SUCCESS STORIES

We have premiered and screened films that went on to win an Oscar (The Silent Child, 2017) or later received a major distribution deal (A Bird Flew, 2022; Avi, 2022; Roy, 2022; A Living Dog, 2021; Into The Mirror, 2019; You Go To My Head, 2019; and Phantompain, 2018) to name just a few.

Despite the festival's relatively small size, there are each year many gems to be found among the many short and feature films in the programme. Furthermore, many filmmakers and actors are traditionally present - and a lot of productive networking takes place.

OUR CURATION: ARTISTICALLY-DRIVEN FILMS, INSPIRING STORIES

Film is a unique medium, and NRFF’s mission is to support and champion inspiring, independent artists and storytellers. This includes experimental work, emotional drama, music, dance, and emerging talent (see below).

Our festival is built around ARTISTS and their STORIES. By doing so, we aim to establish an international COMMUNITY of inspiring storytellers. We are not interested in following current fashions or being politically divisive. We seek out stories that are genuinely imaginative, emotional and life-affirming. At the heart of what we do is our passion to tell great stories.

Curating a festival is never easy but we strive to put together a great programme each year in an environment that is warm, inclusive and truly dignified. You can visit last year's programme online at ww.nrff.co.uk to get a feel for the quality of curation we are known for.

NEW RENAISSANCE LONDON 2023

2023 will be our eighth year in London, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. For 3 days in September, we will screen around 100 outstanding films in the heart of London. The programme will include narrative shorts, features, documentaries, animations, dance and music videos, a NETWORKING party and AWARDS CEREMONY.

Running alongside the festival will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION, a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, a filmmaker's PANEL DISCUSSION, Filmmaker Q&A's, and other networking opportunities.

EMERGING TALENT AWARDS

Apart from a high number of UK and International films, NRFF London has a category for EMERGING TALENT (talented Gen Z, debut or early stage filmmakers embarking on their careers in the film industry). Those selected can win CASH PRIZES. We found a sponsor for this in 2021 and 2022 and are happy to announce that they will continue supporting these cash prizes for emerging talent in 2023.

Please read our Rules & Terms before making your submission.

Key Dates:

Submissions for 2024 will be open. The festival will take place in October 2024, and all contestants will be notified at least 4-6 weeks prior to the event.

SUPPORTING THE INDEPENDENT FILM COMMUNITY

It is our passion to not only provide a stage for our filmmakers but also to strengthen the INDEPENDENT film community, by building an engaged audience through social media - especially Instagram and Facebook. We actively encourage directors, screenwriters, producers and actors to network during the festival and after the event. By doing so, new artistic collaborations have occurred.

Mediterranean Film Festival

Siroki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Mediterranean Film Festival in Široki Brijeg is characteristic for a unique atmosphere – a mixture of relaxed fun, tourism, rhythm and films. Hence the Festival quickly became the favourite of film workers and audience. Those who once feel the scent of the Mediterranean in this little town of film, shall always return to it. In front of the hall where the projections are going on there is always an interesting atmosphere, and after the projections there is always fun and dancing to the rhythms of urban music till late hours. The Festival is the initiator of the new relations within the world of culture, there is no elitism in it, no VIP boxes, no privileges. Within the last ten years we have succeeded to create an atmosphere in which no one feels alienated, inferior or less invited to be a part of the event.

MFF is the oldest festival of documentary film in the region considering that only documentary films compete here and the largest part of the program is based on documentaries. This is one of the rare festivals that has money prizes for the winners of the festival and in that way helps them to create new film projects. The School of Film Culture with relevant lecturers is being organized within the very MFF. A short documentary film is created every year at the MFF workshop, which we screen at the closure of the festival.

Besides the film projections there are also other programs offered at MFF. First of all the touristic ones, where a new branch, unknown untill now in Hercegovina, is developed – the cultural tourism. Within the tourism part there are the tours visiting the most interesting sites in Hercegovina which might be used as the locations for films shooting. Visits to the most significant touristic potentials of Hercegovina (Međugorje and Mostar) are also organized. We meet the guests of the festival to the exceptional archaeological localities and introduce them with the potentials of ethno tourism. In cooperation with the Tourist Board we get our guests acquainted with the Hercegovinian gastronomy – an extraordinary cuisine that has preserved the ancient taste and has not subdued to the modern culinary novelties, and belongs to a very healthy nutrition.

Mediterranean Film Festival lasts for six days, and all our guests, never mind from which part of the Mediterranean they might come, shall wish to come back again here.
