MEXICO INTERNATIONAL LGBTQ+ FILM FESTIVAL 2022 (¡Goya Queer!)
www.goyaqueer.mx
October 26-30, 2022
CINE TONALÁ
_________________________________________
☆ CONCEPT—
The Mexico LGBTQ+ International Film Festival (¡Goya Queer!) is a nonprofit organization of general interest that CONNECTS WORLDWIDE FILMMAKERS [who make LGBTQ+ themed movies] WITH A WIDE AUDIENCE FROM CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA, while also fighting against homophobia and discriminations towards LGBTQ+ youth.
¡Goya Queer! is a cinematographic event also known as The Mexico LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, where talented directors from around the world come to Mexico City to present their work.
Indeed, we believe that art, culture, and films in particular, can help bring public awareness on sensitive matters such as love and its various forms of expression.
☆ PHYLOSOPHY—
The point is not so much to show "the latest films that have never been screened in another festival before" (even though most of our selection is both recent and exclusive).
LGBTQ+ films generally find their audience mainly in niche festivals [where the audience is mainly the LGBTQ+ community itself].
¡Goya Queer!, on the other hand, intends to offer to a wider audience some high-quality films [creatively, technically and intellectually], which will both captivate the viewers and help them to think out of a box.
Just as it is not necessary to be heterosexual to appreciate action movies, we are convinced that love stories (which are often at the center of LGBTQ+ cinema) are universal and speak to all communities, insofar as the characteristic of every human being is the desire to love and be loved.
We value creative expression and cultural diversity, yet we don’t agree with the term of “community” as specified by the general LGBTQ+ code.
We believe the world should be united, not divided into communities.
We appreciate dialogues and differing opinions, and we do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or abusive behavior, such as offensive comments related to race, ethnicity, nationality, citizenship status, gender identity and/or expression, sexuality, physical appearance, religion, ability, age, or economic background.
Like the Dalai Lama XIV said “We will never make peace with ourselves if we can't be at peace with the world around us”.
Every year for the last seven years, the Short Event association has organized a short film festival in Lyon: "Pour Faire Court". This event, using the codes of the seventh art as vectors of emotion and sharing, invites you to discover a specific program of short films, according to a defined theme.
This year's theme is ‘Light and Shadow: the contrast of a lifetime’. This theme is rich and open to multiple interpretations. It invites artists to explore the contrasts that manifest themselves in life, whether through human emotions, personal experiences, objects or places.
Participants are encouraged to express their own vision of the theme, whether the light and/or shadow is symbolic, metaphorical or visual. The theme can deal with duality, challenges and hopes, shadows and opposites that we all face.
Afterwards, there will be a cocktail reception to encourage sharing between enthusiasts and artists.
PLEASE RESPECT THIS THEME.
The InFest Film Festival is a 2-day freak short film Festival which is held in Rubí, a city of asphalt, industry and smoke located in the Valles Occidental, a region located near Barcelona (Spain).
The InFest festival emerges as a firm and clear proposal: that Rubí be known as the Rubiwood of the Vallés district. During the last 8 years, InFest has organized the best possible short film experience: outdoors screenings, concerts, bar service and all kinds of activities related to cinema. In 2024, InFest will celebrate its 9th annual edition. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the InFest was moved to the amphitheater of The castle of Rubí ("El Castell"), a defensive construction from the 13th century, which can host public events with more than 2000 people. Ras i Curt is the short film competition of Ullastrell (Western Valls). He first saw the light in 2018, with the aim of promoting audiovisual creation through the short film and its exhibition in Ullastrell. This 2022 we celebrate the 5th edition.
We think small places like Ullastrell, not because they are small, less rich in the knowledge and abilities of the people who inhabit it to generate culture. For this reason, through the audiovisual, a very transversal medium, the opportunity is given to both young people and adults from any place to be able to express themselves on the big screen, putting images, sound and the maximum creativity and quality that they are capable of.
From November 7 to December 14, 2022, the registration period opens to send short film proposals for the second edition of ras i Curt, with a maximum duration of 5 minutes. There are prizes for categories of up to 200 euros each, and one recognition for the best questioning and the best short poster design, each with a prize of 100 euros. The audience is and will be one of the pillars of this contest, and for this reason we give voice to your judgment to award the Audience Award, valued with 200 euros and with an annual subscription to Filmin.
We encourage anyone who has an idea to develop it, with the tools at their disposal. And to accompany those who need a push, we offer the Festival a program of 9 free training online workshops of themes that revolve around the short film. Registration is required through the online form as places are limited.
At the end of the deadline (14/12/2021), the jury, made up of five members of the audiovisual and artistic world, will deliberate the prizes among the short films presented that meet the bases. And it will be on Saturday, December 17 at 7 p.m. when the public screening of all the shorts and the corresponding subsequent awards ceremony will be made. This awards ceremony will take place in the Act Room of Ullastrell's Casal Cultural, and admission will be free - you can book a seat by www.ja.cat/entradesullastrell - or by picking them up for half an hour before starting the event at the Casal's locker.
