International film festival of the Central University

Bogotá, Colombia

The Central University International Film Festival (Bogotá, Colombia) will celebrate its eighth edition in 2025, and one of the fundamental pillars of this new stage is the opening towards alternative forms of film production, as well as the promotion of aesthetic experimentation. Under the motto "Finding a possible cinema", the festival proposes a innovative approach, opening spaces for projects that question established conventions and break with the traditional structures of the film industry. This edition moves away from the dynamics that limit creativity to high budgets or large-scale productions, and, instead, embraces creative freedom, understanding cinema as a tool available to everyone, regardless of available resources.

This approach seeks to break down the limitations of a cinema conventionally associated with the bourgeois, and encourage filmmakers to develop projects closer to their realities, which dialogue authentically with their social and cultural environment.

In this sense, the short films that enter the competition will be evaluated and valued mainly for their recursiveness in terms of production, the exploration of contexts closest to the author and the rupture of cinematographic language through the use of elements present in various everyday lives.

Bendita Tú FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Bendita Tú is an international short film festival that promotes experimental, hybrid, and video essay cinema with a gender and queer perspective. Based in Argentina and Spain, the festival creates a space for encounter and dialogue to give visibility to emerging cinema within a diversity of identities and territories.

In its 8th edition, the festival chooses the Land as its central theme, a concept that opens the door to multiple meanings. It is, at the same time, the planet we inhabit and the soil that sustains life, as well as a network of relationships where the human and the non-human intertwine in a web of interdependence. From a poetic and broad perspective, the Land is conceived as a medium that evokes displacements, migrations, and diasporas, but also as a ground laden with scents, textures, and memories, where the organic and the inorganic merge. As Gaston Bachelard (1994) said, “the Land is a memory that can be touched,” an idea that gives it both sensory and symbolic resonances, transforming it into a space of reinvention, mourning, and resistance.

The festival proposes a dialogue around the interconnections situated in relation to this element. From indigenous worldviews, which understand the world as a living and sacred being (Shiva, 2005), to contemporary approaches that highlight the agency of the non-human (Bennett, 2010), with the aim of reflecting on how the Land territorializes and, at the same time, territorializes us, redefining notions of belonging and home in a context marked by profound geological and atmospheric transformations.

Entities considered “non-living” —the substrate, stones, sand— emerge as fundamental actors in narratives of displacement. As Ingold (2011) suggests, “life does not occur on the Land, but within its folds and textures.” Thus, through diverse audiovisual approaches, this edition is an invitation to feel the thickness of the Land, to listen to its multiple voices, and to recognize that, even in the most distant grounds, there are traces of life that connect us with other beings and with other temporalities, acknowledging that we are part of a constant flow of lives and materials that precede and will succeed us.

The 8th edition will feature a selection of short films included in the Official Competition and the Roots Section.

Sound and Music Film Festival Makedonska 21 is taking place in an old Belgrade building dating back to early 20tth century (1928), which is situated on Makedonska 21 street. This was the building of the strongest workers union at the time, founded to promote highly respected values of mutual respect and solidarity. After the Second World War the premises were used by Radio Belgrade as the location of Studio 10, which was the home of most significant radio dramas and music records. This place was responsible for introducing the art of sound to Belgrade listeners and making it an essential part of their cultural heritage, proving itself to be of an immeasurable artistic, cultural, and social significance.

Today, the building is a blend of residential and commercial units. Relying on the building’s rich history, their residents decided to give something in return and contribute to its tradition by starting a film festival that celebrates the art of film music and sound design.

The festival is intended to be a professional networking platform for anyone coming from these fields –film composers, sound designers, sound recordist, music producers, musicians, music bands, to name a few, in order to give them the opportunity to explore, learn, exchange their knowledge and unite ideas.

The festival welcomes films of all categories – documentary films, short fiction films, experimental films, animated films, of all genres, as long as they are commited to creative use of their soundscape.

The bulding premises alow this event to spread its sound magic on various stages simoultaneously – from the monumental hall with great acoustics, and music store Metropolis located on the ground floor, all the way to the roof top, where people can enjoy films and live music over drinks under the vast Belgrade sky.
