AZYL SHORTS is a unique event in Slovakia as well as in Central Europe. We create a space for presenting the authors of short films and music videos. Our main goal is not only to carefully prepare the competition itself, but to create a platform which will ensure the promotion of the artists to the professional and general public alike.
We have three competitive categories:
- 1 Minute Films
- 5 Minute Films
- Music videos
There will be screenings of not only the competitive sections of the festival, but also the best shorts from Oscars, Cannes and other well–known film festivals.
Our jurors from V4 countries will be the programmers for the V4 shorts section choosing the best films from their countries.
We are preparing great side events – masterclasses, discussion, film workshop for young filmmakers and of course evening off-program as concerts and parties.
The best movies from the festival will be presented not only in Slovakia, but also at different parts of the world, such as Hungary, Poland or Czech Republic, where the viewers will be able to see the best-ranked movies of the current year – The Best of AZYL 2024.
The central theme of the shorts must be related to Nursing or Physiotherapy, in any of their work areas or training stages. Nurses are not only in hospitals!
We want you, with a camera or your smartphone, to tell us, in a short fiction or documentary, with a maximum duration of five minutes, what you see in the profession, what or who is important to you, how we relate and how we work, teach, learn or lead.
In short, we want to know nursing and physiotherapy from your perspective because the different perspectives teach us new aspects and points of view that may surprise us. Go ahead and show us yours!
There are no limits to the way you discuss the topic you choose. We look for that different perspective, that unique perspective that you can contribute, that fun way of presenting everyday situations in which you have been able to be an observer or protagonist. Don't set limits! Add imagination and a sense of humor, a lot of sense of humor!
You don't have to be a professional filmmaker, we have a category for you. And if you already have experience, we are also looking forward to seeing your new piece.

In 2023 we screened just over 130 independent films as part of our official selection to our live audiences and presented 14 prestigious awards at our festival award ceremony. We work hard to help in promoting your film to an ever-growing UK wide indie film-loving audience.
Officially Selected entries from each category are screened at our film festival as part of our official programme, winning films will receive a highly coveted trophy, a framed certificate, and media coverage.
We value and proudly promote films from any filmmaker, creative, or producer to the general public, which enables them to view something different, regardless of how big or small their budget for creating a film is, in a region that is under-represented for opportunities to engage with independent film. Including receiving submissions from first-time filmmakers, female/non-binary filmmakers, neurodiverse filmmakers, stories from the LGBTQIA+ community, people with lived experience, as well as films focussing on social and environmental issues.
