Chhayanat is not just another film festival!
Since its inception, the Chhayanat Film and Theatre Festival at Jadavpur University has stood as a bastion of alternative cultural expression. Drawing inspiration from cinematic movements such as poetic realism, Italian neorealism, French New Wave, Surrealism and Iranian and world cinema, as well as the rich tradition of socially conscious theater, Chhayanat has become an abode for film lovers. It embraces an anti-fascist and anti-imperialist perspective. The influence of Italian Neorealism on Chhayanat is evident in the festival's selection of films that prioritize raw emotions, personal storytelling and stark portrayals of social injustice.
The impetus behind the formation of the Chhayanat Film Festival stems from a deep-seated desire to showcase films that not only entertain but also challenge and provoke thought. It is a celebration of cinema that transcends mere entertainment, delving into the realms of political and social commentary. From the works of directors who embody the spirit of resistance, such as Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak, to contemporary filmmakers like Jafar Panahi and Jean-Luc Godard, pushing the boundaries of storytelling, Chhayanat provides a platform for voices that often go unheard in mainstream cinema.
Moreover, the festival extends its embrace to theater, recognizing the inherent connection between the two art forms. Drawing from the revolutionary works of playwrights such as Bertolt Brecht, Federico García Lorca and Augusto Boal, Chhayanat underscores the importance of freedom of expression in theater. It pays homage to the legacy of figures like Shambhu Mitra, Utpal Dutt and Badal Sircar, who used theater as a tool for social change.
The motto of the festival is: "By humanism to peace and friendship". It is held every two years. Bulgarian Red Cross is the main organiser of the forum.
It has a growing importance as a powerful tool for the dissemination of humanitarian and cultural values through cinema. The Festival is traditionally attended by the most senior leaders of the international Red Cross organisations. The International Committee of the Red Cross, the League (now Federation) of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the World Health Organisation, UNESCO, SIDALC, the Association of Film Producers, Association of Film Distributors, the International Organisation of Film Critics, National cinematographies and film production houses.
The Itabaiana International Film Festival was created with the aim of enabling and encouraging young audiovisual producers living in Brazil and abroad to promote their work, thus promoting new productions and professionals in the regional, national and even international segments.
The Festival will show films from all categories and film genres, through competitive and informative exhibitions; in addition to promoting debates on audiovisual with lectures/round tables/workshops that will be held.

DocuMed – Mediterranean Documentary Cinema Festival in Tunisia, organized annually by the Tunisian Documentary Cinema Association, offers screenings of creative documentaries from countries around the Mediterranean. FILMAY 2025 will be the 7th edition of the short film festival held in Kumanovo.

FIDBA will then be an approach not only among audiences, filmmakers and thinkers linked documentary but also in relation to the always stimulating possibilities that allow you to open this space to other border and heterodox expressions framed inside of what we would call "non-fiction" and that encourage us to dialogue with contemporary expressions that go beyond even the scope of the film.
FIDBA will pay special attention to those filmmakers for whom cinema is linked to a form of research and knowledge of the world that surrounds us as to the portrait of human beings whose conditions of life, in certain historical and social contexts, allow you to ask us about our. It is, therefore, authors who not only reflect reality but also ethical and moral relationship which involves filming the other.
FIDBA aims to become a point of support for filmmakers seeking to widen the perception of reality and to films which represent a step forward in the effort to understand it and anticipate it. So, it will make focus on films whose aesthetic originality put at risk not only an idea of the documentary but also a thought about the same film and its possibilities. Since this focus implies questioning the status of the real front of the camera or of the film in relation to reality, this is as inseparable from the mediations that arises.

FICC 2026 – A Platform for the Industry

FICC 2026 will be held in July in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, Cuenca is transformed each year into a living cinematic stage, where tradition and modernity intertwine at every screening.

'Saint Anna' is the oldest Russian film festival for students which is based in Moscow in 1993. The fesival runs more than 30 years, has awarded more than 100 filmmakers such as Timur Bekmambetov, Aleksander Kott, Nurbek Egen, Aleksey German Jr and many others.
At the moment of its founding the Festival was counted as international because the competition included student works from the former USSR republics and Batlic states. From 1999 to 2005 the Festival presented the special programs of filmschools among the world, and also accepted the films were shot in Russian language in many contries.
From 2025 the Festival stated the official International Copmetition of the short films from Cinema Schools (student cometition).
