Censored Film Festival

Lima, Peru

Censurados Film Festival is a film festival that disseminates and makes visible “the cinema they don't want you to see.” Based in Peru, the festival is committed to freedom of expression, human rights and diversity through the screening of films and the organization of artistic and educational activities.

CATEGORIES

1. International Competition “Censorship”. Fiction, documentary, animation and/or cinematographic experimentation films from any part of the world that have been censored due to political, religious, corporate, authoritarian or social pressures or interests, among others, or that have been victims of threats and/or violence, either during its research, production or realization or in its subsequent exhibition and/or distribution. It is an essential requirement to provide demonstrable information about the censorship, threat, pressure or violence that the film has suffered. No duration limit.

2. Short Film Competition “Shorts without Cut”. Fiction, documentary, animation and/or cinematographic experimentation films from anywhere in the world and a maximum duration of 30 minutes that claim freedom of thought and expression without fear of cancellation, and political and social action in matters of public interest.

3. “Peruvian Voices” Competition. Fiction, documentary, animation and/or cinematographic experimentation films from Peru that allow dissident voices to be heard and make the viewer reflect on controversial topics, on which different groups have constructed apparently irreconcilable arguments, in order to create an open and elevated dialogue space on them. No duration limit.

The ELCO 2025 Competition
Discover the competition categories and everything you need to know to submit your film to ELCO 2025: A festival that opens borders, reaching 6 countries and 16 cities.

The ELCO Film Festival classifies aspiring works into three sections, aiming to showcase the talent competing with their diverse works in the festival. We'll award feature films, short films, and music videos in our 13th ELCO edition.

In the feature film section, we'll award categories for fiction, documentary, and animation in a single competition for Venezuela. Likewise, in Argentina, Colombia, Spain, the USA, and the Dominican Republic, we'll exclusively award the best fiction feature film from each country, respectively. These latter winners will then compete for the "Best Foreign Film ELCO 2025" award.

Similarly, in the short film section in Venezuela, we'll award fiction, documentary, and animation. And specifically to encourage local production, within the same short film section, for the first time we'll award the best short film from each Venezuelan region. This means this year we'll specially recognize local talent from the venues in Caracas, Maracaibo, Calabozo, Ciudad Bolívar, Ciudad Guayana, Mérida, Margarita, Lechería, and La Victoria. In Argentina, Colombia, Spain, the USA, and the Dominican Republic, we'll also award the best fiction short film from each country, respectively.

In a different approach, the music video section will award the best international ELCO music video, a competition where all competitors from ELCO 2025 countries will meet and be judged.

THE NEW RENAISSANCE

The spacious cinema LAB111 will again be the home of the New Renaissance Film Festival (NRFF) for its seventh edition. This friendly art-house festival which is based in London, and was called “One of the UK’s top film festivals” (London METRO, O1.08.16), has premiered and screened films that went on to win an Oscar or received a major distribution deal.

Despite its relatively small size, there are each year many gems to be found among the many short and feature films in the programme. Furthermore, many filmmakers and actors are traditionally present, and a lot of productive networking takes place.

Apart from a high number of international films, NRFF Amsterdam has a strong LGBT presence, and a category for Dutch Films.

ARTISTICALLY-DRIVEN FILMS, INSPIRING STORIES

Film is a unique medium, and NRFF’s mission is to support and champion inspiring, independent artists and storytellers. This includes experimental work, emotional drama, SF films and an exciting variety of LGBT shorts and features.

Our festival is built around ARTISTS and their STORIES. By doing so, we aim to establish an international COMMUNITY of inspiring storytellers. We are not interested in following current fashions or being political. We seek out stories that are genuinely imaginative, emotional and life-affirming. At the heart of what we do is our passion to tell great stories.

To get a feel for the festival, watch the trailer of the previous year: https://vimeo.com/523206192 and visit the 2022 programme website: www.nrff.nl

INCLUSIVE AND UNIQUE

The festival has several categories for International, Dutch and LGBT filmmakers. We especially love quality dramas with strong emotional themes, but we accept ALL genres. We are also proud to attract a high number of female directors.

Follow our NRFF page on Instagram and Facebook for photos and interesting updates.

SUPPORTING THE INDEPENDENT FILM COMMUNITY

It is our passion to not only provide a stage for our filmmakers but also to strengthen the INDEPENDENT film community, By building an engaged audience through social media. We actively encourage directors, screenwriters, producers and actors to network during the festival and after the event. By doing so, new collaborations have occurred.

The FIRST THURSDAYS FILM FESTIVAL is a MONTHLY festival hosted by The FATHER/DAUGHTER FILM REPORT (so your entry is good for a year, basically giving you 12 chances to get in).

The FATHER/DAUGHTER FILM REPORT can be found on FILM FESTIVAL TODAY magazine

www.filmfestivaltoday.com

Yes, we report on film festivals from around the world with the unique perspective from an old baby-boomer (Dad) and a young millennial (Amanda).

Now having our OWN film festival, our wish is to help film makers with EXPOSURE & NETWORKING in a unique way (besides receiving laurels and having your film shown to a packed house):

We get exposure globally for your film with a write up in FILM FESTIVAL TODAY magazine, which is seen world-wide....and seen by some pretty big names world-wide, too! (For example, at the 2015 China/USA film summit, David was granted an interview with Wei Zhang, president of Alibaba Pictures, the largest film company in China to find out what she is looking for).

If your film is a fan-favorite, or you have a unique story about your film - or youself - we usually do a feature story on THAT, too. No other film festival (unless you win the Academy Awards or maybe Sundance) can give you THAT kind of GLOBAL EXPOSURE.

The festival is held 20 minutes south-east of downtown Austin & 15 minutes from Bergstrom Airport, where we will come to pick you up if you are an official selection and decide to come in person, as well as take care of your room & board if you are staying the night.

Can't make it to central Texas? We understand. However we want you still to be able to experience the film festival NETWORK experience, so after we show your film we'll SKYPE you and/or your colleagues in...unless you're camera shy.

This is our 12th Year running Jewish Film Festivals. Veteran Film Festival Directors Wendy Honig, Lesley Rich and Arleen Roberts invite you to join our new International Jewish Film Festival. We started our Jewish film adventure in 2014 at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, moving our group of dedicated screeners and patrons thereafter in 2017 to create the Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival with a commitment to grow the festival into one of the largest in the nation, and thereafter becoming the 2nd largest in the US in 2023.

WE DO NOT CHARGE A SUBMISSION FEE, UNLIKE OTHER MAJOR FESTIVALS IN FLORIDA. One of our purposes is to support filmmakers to get exposure for their films and find distribution opportunities.

We have now expanded to become a new International Jewish Film Festival that will be held in February and March with film programs planned year-round. Our large selection of exciting premiere films will be screened at Cinemark Palace 20 and Movies of Delray and Lake Worth. The Festival is a 501(c)3 charity organization formed as a celebration of Jewish / Israeli cinema. It is a gathering of filmmakers, film enthusiasts, and industry professionals who come together to appreciate and showcase the art of filmmaking. We reach out, excite and bring together our community with and through the power of films that showcase Jewish spirit, culture, traditions and humor.

The Festival features many World and US Premieres. The Festival is proud to introduce new films and filmmakers to distributors and its audiences, including both full length and short films. The Festival is run by Wendy Honig and Lesley Rich

Submissions are for consideration the festival to be held early 2026.

ASSERTING WOMEN'S RIGHTS is a project that emerged from the Festival de Málaga, in collaboration with documentary filmmaker Mabel Lozano and the Equal Opportunities Department of the Malaga City Council, as a tool for protest and advocacy. This section was created with the aim of exploring and addressing issues that raise social awareness about women's rights each year.

Launched in 2008, this section of the Festival de Málaga is now in its 19th edition. The project has a dual purpose: to shed light on the injustices that women continue to face in the 21st century simply because they are women, and to promote and support films created by women.

Through Asserting Women's Rights, we have brought attention to the challenges women face in different parts of the world. Even today, there are many places where women and girls must fight daily for their survival. In these regions, traditional practices and cultural norms often hinder their personal and social development, preventing them from achieving equality with their male counterparts.

Short Movie Club Film Festival Nefiltravanae Kino

Warsaw, Poland

The purpose of the festival refers to awareness of both the external filters on the screen, including censorship (commercial, ideological, aesthetic), and the internal filters of screen perception and projection, including self-censorship. NEFILTRAVANAE KINO is an exploration of aestheticization and commodification in art. The next aim of the festival is to expose the complexity, manysidedness, and variety of filmmaking.

NEFILTRAVANAE KINO (NoFilter Kino) is a film festival that is held by the Short Movie Club, the platform for cinematic projects. NEFILTRAVANAE KINO is ADAMI Media Prize qualified festival. The International Film Studies Conference is held at the same time as the film festival. In this way, film theory and practice are integrated together at the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO.

Originally the festival was held in Belarus, but because of political repression and publicly stated anti-war stance, screenings and events can be held in different countries. First of all in Poland (Warsaw), Germany (Berlin, Hamburg), Lithuania (Vilnius). For example, the 11th and 10th Nefiltravanae Kino took place in Warsaw, Berlin, Hamburg, Vilnius and Helsinki. The content of past years' film programs can be found on the website https://shortmovie.club/programmes/

The festival will be held in a hybrid format. We will have a part of live screenings and online screenings on a video platform https://film.nofilterkino.org/ . The video is cryptographically secured. In addition, we pay attention and promote films from our previous years that are released to the public on the Internet after their festival curcuit.

Nefiltravanae Kino involves theater, artists to interpret symbols and history. We work with the audience's reaction and participants' as well.

--------------------------------------------------------
The concept of the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO (NoFilter Kino):

ALIENATION PROBLEM

We live in a world of malls and cinema multiplexes. We see that indie cinema and non-commodity art go to the periphery of public attention. Primitive attractions replace the cinematography. The escape audience is alienated behind the big screen. So modern mainstream cinema is part of a manipulating tool that leads to the society of alienation. Thus the tendency is that indie cinema becomes more unreadable for the wide audience. We should understand the context of the filmmaker to understand the independent cinema. That is why the NEFILTRAVANAE KINO concept implies the physical presence of filmmakers.

FILM SELECTION PROBLEM
Filmmakers shoot millions of movies. And thousands of short film festivals organize screenings all over the world every year. On average, several thousand films are submitted to a film festival. So various good films can be neglected for whatever reason. Often selecting probability is like winning a lottery. As a result, filmmakers are left with no feedback. It is a paradox that no one can hear you in the age of the Internet! The mainstream culture prefers attractions and casual viewing.

Also, this idea is based on the film selection problem. Perhaps it’s no surprise one person, i.e. programme director at best, or even students of film schools make a preliminary decision to select a movie. Сoncordance of judges or previewers is more seldom thing than the difference of background, tastes. So selection or judging can be one-sided or perfunctory. It is not bad as the programme director has a good taste and aesthetic sensitivity, of course. But we’ve discovered another conception of “unfiltered cinema”. We matched it against “the best of the best” way. This way aids to perceive cinematic idiom without the dictate of art-curators.

CELEBRATION OF INDIE CINEMA
So the NoFilter Kino tries to avoid “the best of the best” way but it does not ignore it completely, sure. The festival selects fiction, animation, documentary, experimental and virtual reality sections. A jury awards the best film in every section. The festival holds the screenings at cinema theatres, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts, and art-spaces.

Our aim is to gather people in art, to have a dialogue to be happy with smart communication. Cinema is art but not sport. The key point of our project is to establish communication between the filmmaker and the audience.

Please, read about the festival history through the link to the festival's website. http://shortmovie.club/history/
